A girl with transparent skin and musty grey dead eyes was levitating in front of me. Her body was limp and was radiating icy cold vibes. I knew instantly that she was dead.
Before I could scream at the top of my lungs she evaporated and I was staring at a handsome blond beach boy making out with a black haired tan beauty. I shivered, that wasn't much better. I quickly walked to the bathroom, terrified.
I leaned on the sink with my hands gripping the sides. I slowly looked up at my reflection, terrified she would be standing behind me. She wasn't. I sighed in relief and nearly jumped out of my skin when a voice came from behind me.
"Hey Morgan," said a girl with an innocent voice.
I spun around quicker than lightning. I let out a sigh if relief. It was just my friend, Malory. Her blond hair was in loose curls that fell over her shoulders and elegantly draped around her body. We had the same body types which was kinda weird but made sharing cloths easy. She had on a bright blue fluffy short dress that brought out her blue/green eyes.
"Oh, hey Malory," I said, trying to calm down.
"Are you ok?" she asked with concern.
I simply nodded. Not wanting to panic her. Or worse, make her think I've lost my mind. When she just kept staring at me I got up onto the sink. "I'm fine," I assured her with more confidence in my voice than I felt.
"Alright," she said in her normal peppy voice, "This party is sooo cool! Isn't it?" she said, adjusting her bouncy curls in the mirror beside me.
I was looking around the tiny bathroom. The tan and red tiles covered the floors and up the walls but the higher up my eyes traveled the more bare white dry wall was visible. Finally, I got to the ceiling which was white with some faded pink splatters in one corner.
"Morgan?"
"Huh?" I asked, jumping from my trance.
"It's a cool party?" She repeated herself.
"It sure is something," I replied, hopping down from the sink and turning to my mirror.
As I bent over to get a closer look at my masscarra something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. The big metal stall in the corner stood ajar and had something stained on it. I slowly turned around.
"What are you looking at?"
I could only point as I stared in horror. I could feel my heart beating in every part of my body and I could hear it as if it was next to my ear. I could feel the tiny hairs on my arms and the back of my neck rise as goose bumps spread on my skin. I couldn't believe what I was seeing!
"Wha-," Malory began to ask when she turned around. I could see her jaw drop and her eyes widen once she spotted it.
On that last stall door was writing and hand prints as if there was a struggle after the words had been written. It was sloppy but legible. . . and looked like it had been written in blood then wiped away as if someone were trying to keep it hidden. Whoever had tried to get rid of it hadn't done a good job.
"Blood runs dry," Malory and I spoke in unison. Chills ran down my spine and spread to the rest of my body as I spoke the words.
Suddenly the lights flickered but only for a moment. I couldn't help but to laugh at the cheesieness of it all.
"What are you laughing about!?" Malory practically shouted at me.
"Oh come on Mal! There's gotta be 2,000 people here! Someone probably thought it would be funny to leave a stupid scary message in the girls bathroom and wait to hear their screams," I said then looked at her face, it was pale but she looked like she was recovering a little.
"Okay..." she paused, "but what about the flickering lights?"
"They are probably just burning out, this place is abandoned after all," I reminded her. I watched her expression, she looked so vulnerable right now. "But hey, maybe it's real. There where two girls standing in the restroom, the lights flickered out and when they came back on only one was left, surrounded by laughter."
She squealed in fear and I laughed. "Oh lighten up Mal, I'm only messing with you. It's just a stupid prank some immature kid left in here." I reassured her.
"Okay..." she said in a shaky voice.
"Come on, let's go enjoy the party while it lasts," I said, trying to lighten the mood and change the subject.
"You go, I'm gunna stay a while."
"Alright, see you on the dance floor!" I called to her and stepped out of the bathroom.
She said something and it sounded like she was shouting back to me. I hadn't heard any more than my name because the music was so loud. I thought nothing of it, probably just her saying, "see ya". If only I had turned around, then I would have seen.
