After the Lights Dim

I can't believe this, this can't be happening. No, no, no, NO! My heart was beating a mile a second as the hairs on the back of my neck and arms lifted and my knees began to feel weak.

His smirk was locked in place as he looked from my heels to my eyes, making me feel over exposed. His luscious moss green eyes stared into mine. Sure his relaxed posture and smirk screamed badass but his eyes where soft on me. Of coarse he's none other than the schools badboy, another word for man whore, and my ex, Garret Thorn. Ya, he's just that special you have to say his whole name.

Instead of either falling to his feet and begging him to take me back or running as far away from him as possible like my body wanted, I straightened my back, put a hand on my hip and gave him an icy glare. His eyes immediately hardened and his smirk twitched but to cover it up he gave me a wiry smile.

"What's he doing here?" I asked, a little more aggravated than I had ment to.

"I invited him," Lance answered innocently, obviously clueless to the fact that Garret and I hadn't talked in months.

You see, Garret Thorn isn't your typical high school sweetheart. He goes out with select few girls at each school he moves to and dates them for roughly a month. But he doesn't just date you. He makes promises, whispers to you sweet nothings, and makes you feel wanted and like you are the most important girl in the world. Then he comes up with some lame ass lie, promising to come back for you when really a few days later he's going out with some cheerleader snob and never talking to you again. Thus leaving you feeling useless, easy, and broken. That is Garret Thorn.

Drake suddenly looked uneasy from the situation. His hands were shoved in his pockets and his attention was anywhere else but Garret. Cassidy looked uneasy aswell but not like Drake. She looked like she was about to jump on someone and rip their eyes out.

"What are we waiting for?" Garret's deep smooth voice broke the icy silence, "I want to see your faces during this movie," his eyes didn't leave me.

"I'm pretty sure you'll be too busy screaming your head off like a child to pay attention to our laughing faces," I shot back, man this guy provoked me!

He raised a thick dark eyebrow at me then pretty much checked me out. Smirking when he saw something he liked then looking into my eyes. I let out a scoff of disgust at him.

"Let's just go in and watch the movie," I said, crossing my arms over my chest and taking a step towards the theater doors.

Drake began to walk next to me and Cassidy walked on my other side. Lance and Garret walked behind us and I could hear their gruff voices as they talked but the worst part was that I could feel Garret's eyes on me. That made me feel over exposed.

Once Lance paid for Cassidy and my tickets, Drake and Garret paying for their own, we made our way down to theater six. Well, Garret flirted with the poor girl behind the glass till she gave him a ticket. GAG!

"Hey guys, I'm gunna go get some popcorn ok?" Cassidy said, not letting the guys answer or me protest as she grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the counter.

After we got to the counter she looked me dead in the eyes. "Are you ok?"

"Ya, psh, I'm fine," that was so not convincing.

She gave me a parenal leer and placed her dainty hands on her hips, "no, you're not." she stated, and she was right. I was not okay, my heart still ached every time I sat on my own couch and I still cried myself to sleep over Garret. Call me what you want but what he did to me had killed me.

"Okay, I'm not but it doesn't matter, it's not about me tonight so let's just have a good time. I'm gunna be fine, don't worry so much ok?" I gave her what I hoped was a reassuring smile. It failed, I could tell by the way her eyes locked in a squint on my face.

"Whatever Morgan, but if at any time you want to leave I'm sure Drake-"

"I'm gunna be fine, slow your engine Ace, and besides I've been looking forward to seeing this movie for ages!" I said, exaggerating ages with my arms spread out.

"Okay then," she began to turn back to the theater.

"Wait! what about the popcorn?"

"Psh, nah, I'm fat enough as it is," she said with a wink and continued to walk away. With an exasperated sigh I followed her.

Once we got in the lights were dimmed and the previews were almost over. We scanned the rows until our eyes landed on our group. There was one seat left. Naturally Cassidy ran up to the seat but I didn't bother. Cassidy is on the track team and I'm in heals.

I slowly made my way up, popcorn crunching beneath my feet as I navigated my way around people, who had nowhere else to sit but the steps, and up. Once I got to my group the opening music had come on.

"Um..." I said, observing my predicament. There were people lined up on the floor except around Drake and Garret's feet where it was sticky.

"Just sit on the floor," Garret said with a wicked grin.

"Ya right, that floor is sticky as I'll get out and I don't want to know what the substance is," I said in a matter-of-fact tone. All he did was put his hands up like an innocent kid.

"You could always..." Lance drifted off as he glanced to his left. I followed his glance at a girl sitting in her friend's lap. Just as I was about to sit with Cassidy I followed his glance back to Garret.

"Ah, Hell No!" I whisper screamed at him.

"Take a seat already would ya?" Garret said looking annoyed and apparently oblivious to what Lance had just suggested.

Making up my mind to annoy Garret, I sat with my butt on one arm rest and my feet on the other.

"What the hell do you think you're doing!?" he whisper screamed.

"You told me to sit," I said with a shrug.

"ya but I didn't mean-"

"Shh! It's starting," I whispered then focused in the screen. The lights began to change to a dim orange hue when they suddenly turned back on, maximum brightness.

Once my eyes adjusted I took in everything around me. At first, I thought there had been some stupid malfunction but after I observed my surroundings my heart rate tripled. The once packed theater was vacant except for Drake, Lance, Cassidy, Garret and I. Maybe they had all evacuated! But that's impossible...though, so is a thousand people just disappearing.

I looked over at my group. Cassidy was gripping the arm rests with both hands. Drake was looking around with a confused expression and Lance was looking down at us. I didn't bother looking at Garret, instead, I looked back at Cassidy who was staring at something by the screen with a horrified expression.

With a rush of adrenaline, I followed her line of sight. Standing there, by the large screen, was a grey figure. I gulped down my fear, about to speak when it's head snapped toward us. It's features as thin as smoke and difficult to make out. An unmistakable smile of twisted joy spread across it's smoky face.

A gruff voice rang out in the theater, "Accept or regret, your wish is fulfilled," a wicked chuckle filled the theater and the figure evaporated.

My vision began to blur and the theater began to spin and split into many pieces. I couldn't see and what I could see was giving me an ever growing headache. All I knew at that moment was fear and confusion. The last thing I remember consciously doing was holding onto Garret as my body began to lift.
