Jack lay on a bed. Sweat stood on his forehead and his breathing was slow. Outside the room arguing voices could be heard.
Jack had a fever. And a bad one at that. His body ached all over and the occasional heatstrokes were making the winter spirit crazy. Hot, cold. Hot, cold. It made him wonder if he wasn't turning into the spirit of sping.

The door opened and tooth came flying in. She closed it behind her and fluttered over beside the bed.
Jack looked over at her and sighed when he saw her expression; a mixture of worry, sadness and slight panic.
"Tooth-" he tried to say but was interupted.
"Don't talk. You're going to tell me not to worry but you know as well as me that you're not fine." Her voice grew higer as she came to the end of her sentence, showing the panic she was trying to surpress.
Jack sighed and turned his head back to stare at the ceiling. "What is going to happen now?"
Tooth hesitated, not sure if she could tell him just yet. "Well, first of all you need to get better."
"That's what I came up with too. But... " Jack paused. "Spirits don't normally get sick. In my 300 years, this is the first time."
Tooth stopped hovering and stood. She grabbed a wet towel and squeezed it out a bit before laying it on his forehead. "That's true. None of the others have been sick before either.." she said softly.
Jack cooled down a bit thanks to the towel and closed his eyes. "Then why did I get sick?"
Tooth bit her lip and twiddled with her fingers. "We don't know, but don't worry about that. Focus on getting better for now."

That was a lie. They did know. But telling the winter spirit wouldn't be a good idea. He had been on a rollercoaster of feelings, hurt, betrayal and failure (in his opinion) already. Telling him this information would only make it worse.

Jack nodded and let out a sigh. "Yea, alright. But tell me when you find something."
Tooth only nodded and changed the towel. "And Jack?"
"yes?"
"Please try to forget about (f/n)."
Jack stayed silent for a long time, partly shocked and partly angry at her words.
"Forget about her?" His voice bacame a bit louder.
Tooth sighed, having expected this reaction. "Yes. Forget about her. I know she was your friend, but she said it herself, she isn't anymore." She bit her lip and tried to think of how to tell him the next thing carefully.
"She might even hate you now."
Jack gritted his teeth and turned to look at tooth. But he said nothing. He clenched his eyes shut and turned back, curling up and pulling the blankets over him.
"Jack?" Tooth asked, fluttering her wings to try and see his face.
"Just... leave. Please." he said in a quiet voice. Tooth nodded and flew out, closing the door behind her.

"And?" North asked as soon as tooth came out. She looked up and shook her head. "His fever hasn't gone down yet and he didn't react too good when I started about (f/n)..."
This wasn't good news. He had to forget about the girl or his state would get worse then just a fever.
"Bunny, don't you have some herbs in your Warren that can delay... you know what?" Tooth asked the pooka, keeping aside what they knew would happen so Jack wouldn't overhear by accident.
He sighed but nodded. "I have some that can get his fever down a bit, but that is all it will do."

Not too far from where the guardians were having they're little meeting at the pole ran a figure over the snow covered landscape.
With quick passes it made it's way over to the side of the building.
It pulled back the cap of it's cape and (h/c) locks fell out from under it. You panted and looked up to a window on the third floor. Jack's room.
Without making much sound you melted the snow. You stepped in the puddle and closed your eyes, moving your arms up like you were lifting an heavy object. As a result of the movement the water moved around your feet and slowly the water mass beneath you became bigger. It formed something close to a pillar that grew taller and brought you up to the window. You quickly opened the window and got into the room.
Once inside you saw the winter spirit laying in the bed with his back turned to you. He seemed to be asleep.
You walked over to him and were just about to grab his shoulder to turn him to face you when you jumped slightly as he suddenly spoke. "Tooth, I don't need you're simpathy right now."
Well, he'd heard you come inside. There goes your bet with Mary on who is better at being sneaky.
"Oh? I didn't know I suddenly grew feathers and fairy wings.".you said.
And at that his eyes widened imediatly and he sat up with the speed of a lightningbolt. "(F-f/n)?" His voice was slightly shaky and shock was written all over his face.
You only smiled. "Hey, Jack."
"H-How.. Why are you here?"
"I came to look how you were doing. Are you alright?" You walked a bit closer and placed a hand on his forehead. "A fever?" You chuckled lightly. "Since when does a spirit of winter get ill?"
He looked at you, dumbfounded and clearly not understanding why you were so nice all of a sudden. You acted like yourself again. Had he just dreamed all that had happened? Or was this the dream? The later was more believable since he was a hundered percent sure you fell from that cliff.
"Uhm.. since never. I don't know how I got it either."he answered, deciding to just play along.
You noded and sat down at the side of the bed, looking up at the ceiling. "I missed you..."
Now that made the spirit's jaw drop. Yep, this was a dream. It was the fever.playing with his mind.
"I missed you too. You'd gone missing for a long time..." he said eventually, a small smile beginning to form on his lips. Even if it was too good to be true, there was a small change this really wasn't a dream. And that was enough for the blue-eyed male.

Outside the room it had gone silent as they noticed Jack was talking to somebody. It was hard to understand what he was saying and who he was talking to through the thick, oak door. But no one had seen someone go inside so this couldn't mean any good.

On your turn, you had noticed the silence on the other side of the door and were sure you would be interupted if you didn't act now. So while you continued the conversation with Jack, you made a little gesture with your hand to command the little water drops that still stuck to your boots to float to the lock on the door.
"I know. It was horrible."
The droplets flowed inside with ease and moved so that the door locked itself. A silent click was heard, but Jack didn't notice.
"I had no sense of time during those months. Atleast I think it were months.."
The water formed a little wall for the opening in the lock.
Jack looked at you sadly and put a hand on your shoulder. "I'm sorry, (f/n). That I was..." he paused and you felt the temperature in the room drop a few degrees. Even though the cause of it had a fever, his emotions still controlled his powers for the most part.
"that I was too late.."
The little wall of water froze sollid. Just as you had hoped.

Bunny looked up at the sound of a click. "Oi, did ya'all hear that?" He grabbed the door knob and tried to open it. But it wouldn't budge.
"It's locked. North, where is the key?"
Said man felt his pockets, muttering under his breath that he really thought he'd had pyt them in there. Suddenly he stopped and looked up, laughing nervously. "Key is in Jack's room."
Bunny looked at him, dumbfounded. "You left the bloody key in the room?!"
"In case he wanted alone time!"
"Well, he bloody well has it now. With another person!"
"Guys!" Tooth interupted both men and stood inbetween them, pushing them.away from eachother. "Calm down! Just let Sandy make a key."
Sandy smiled and nodded, looking at the keyhole and then making a key that would fit. However,as he tried to get it in, it wouldn't go futher then a centimeter. The little gold man frowned and pushed harder. But the only effect it had was that the key made of sand fell appart.

You smiled at him and shook your head. "Don't be sorry. It I don't blame you."
He frowned a bit, not sure. "But you said it yoursel-"
"I know what I said, but I have had time to think and I don't blame you." You said, maybe a bit to quickly. Not that he noticed. He smiled a tiny bit and nodded. "Alright then.."
"Say, Jack." You stood up and walked towards the window. Looking back at him you continued. "When you get better, want to go ice scating again?"
A grin slowly made it's way to the winter spirit's lips. "Should that even be a question? Ofcourse!"

The sudden banging on the door made both of them look up. Your eyes widen as you saw the hinges of the door come more loose with each bang. You climbed on the windowsill and were about to jump fown when a hand held you back. All that came up in your mind was: dejavu.
