THE HOWLING.

     01. CHAPTER ONE : no time for caution (n.e)

He could never be too sure what was lurking in the dark. The second a sound echoed in the quiet school, scenarios of getting his blood sucked out by a vampire, or mauled by a werewolf played in his mind. Matt Donovan took slow, cautious steps, his shoes barely making a sound as he did, down the hallway. He pressed his ear to one of the doors, and peeked into the small window. Mustering up bravery, Matt wrenched the door open, and took a step inside. The mousetraps went off, Matt almost had a heart attack, and all of his friends groaned.

"Oh, come on!" Caroline groaned. "Seriously? Do you have any idea how long it took to set this up?"

Tyler stood from his spot, and looked at his friend in mild annoyance. "Forget about Senior Prank Night, huh?"

Breathing heavily, and sweat still on his face, Matt answered, "Clearly."

"How could you forget?" Caroline questioned, seeming somewhat offended. "We've only been waiting for this since like freshman year!"

"Yeah, Matt," Elena started, brandishing a flashlight at the blonde. "If I'm doing this, you're doing this."

"I'm kind of surprised any of you are doing this," Matt deadpanned. Tyler raised his arms in agreement.

"Caroline's making us do this," Bonnie told him.

"We're about to be seniors," Caroline spoke with finality. "These are the memories that will stay with us forever, and if we don't―" Elena joined in unison. "Create these memories now, then what's the point of it all," she finished.

"Go ahead, make fun," Caroline said. "I don't care."

"You're all lame," Tyler announced, grabbing a duffle bag. "And I've got ten more classrooms to prank."

Elena followed after him with some supplies of her own. Stopping only when Bonnie spoke up. "Hey, where are you going?" she asked.

"To superglue Alaric's desk shut," Elena said as if it were obvious, and looked at Caroline, smiling. "I'm making memories."

"I love you!" Caroline called after her. The blonde turned back to the Bonnie and Matt. "Now, let's get started on resetting these." The two rolled there eyes but complied.

"Hey," Matt started after a few minutes of silence. "Where's Rowan?"

"She's home, told us to not bother her with the lame pranking and to only call if someone was dying," Bonnie said, shortly.

"Has she said anything to you guys?" he continued to question. "It's been sort of weird between us since―"

"You two awkwardly didn't make a move on each other?" Caroline cut in. Matt frowned at her. "No, she hasn't."

Matt sighed, and continued back on resetting the mouse traps.

Elena struggled in the grip of the absolute last person she wanted to see. Her much smaller steps barely keeping up with his long strides. She could almost feel the bruises forming due to his tight grip.
