TW: Mentions of death🦙
"If you just stare at people like that what are the others going to think?"
"I don't care anyways." His answer was short and sharp.
"Why are you always like that? You don't try anymore? Where's your ambition? Your light?" There was a pause in their speech, the young man scoffed before answering.
"What ambition? What passion would I have if I'm a corpse of a person? Have you ever felt this way to know what it's like?" The other looked at him with a hostile gaze.
"Depressed people always blame all of their problems on depression." The tall man lashed out without hesitation wanting to prove a point. "You don't know how to face life. You don't want to solve your issues like the rest of us do-"
Hyunjin stared in silence at the drama playing on the gray TV of his family's apartment. His legs propped underneath his lower body, his left hand closed into a soft fist under his chin; holding his head up.
"Depressed people?" The young boy behind the screen scoffed. "I'm just a person that has nothing to lose. Nothing. No family, friends, love...not even you."
Hyunjin's lashes fluttered momentarily, his forehead creasing as his brows furrowed together. His stomach ached and growled softly. His limbs felt heavy, he was tired.
A small whimper made his eyes open; looking down at his lap, he stared at black and white fur. Small eyes peered at him, he studied them back. Another whimper left the small animal's chest demanding something.
Did he want to eat? But he already fed him. He played with him as much as his energy let him. He even got him some mind-stimulating toys so he could get more entertainment in the winter. Cold, dry winter, no activities. At least not any that he was interested in at the moment.
He went into his dad's car the day before and the windshield cleaner bottle that was kept inside was frozen solid. Inside, blue ice made a crackling noise when he shook the plastic bottle from side to side. It made his mind wander, concentrating on a stray memory. It felt somewhat similar to when Bangchan left an orange juice bottle in the dorm freezer so it could "become a slushie" but he ended up forgetting about it. By the time the bottle crossed his mind again, hours had already gone by, and the liquid was less of a juice and more of a brick of ice. Hyunjin's mouth felt dry just thinking about it.
A spark lit up in his brain. Did he forget to fill Kkami's water bowl?
A sudden bark echoed through the house making him startle. "Kkami! Shh." But the dog didn't quiet down, instantly offering another loud bark followed by licks to his face.
"Ok, ok. I'm going." He picked the small dog up, carrying him along to go and take a peek at his water bowl. His footsteps could be heard even with the TV playing in the background. The darkness of the night brought so much silence that it was hard to keep even the simplest things quiet.
"Your bowl is full, look." He crouched down to put the dog on the floor while he pointed at the halfway-full water bowl. Kkami didn't even give it a glance before walking past the boy, to the nearest door and putting his leg up. A clear symbol of "I. Go. Potty."
A panicked gasp left Hyunjin's mouth, his feet rushing towards the dog and scolding, "No, no! Come here. Let's go for a walk." He hushed making the dog flee into his room.
Understanding his son's needs, he hurried to look for a leash and all of the things he might need for a short stroll around his neighborhood. He snatched Kkami out of his dog bed and hurried to put his coat and shoes on before opening the front door of his parent's apartment and walking out.
