Chapter 7 What Are You Doing

Merida's POV

''Get out of ma room!" I yell at my three annoying brothers as they run around my bedroom. They laugh and run out as I chase them. I was about to run after them when my mother popped up from behind me.

"A lady should not run around!" She reminds me. She always tries to get me to 'act like a lady' or as I say 'be someone I'm not'. I huff and slam my door shut. I open my closet and pull out a red shirt with a logo on it, jean shorts, and a plaid shirt that I tied around my waist. I grab my phone then it started it vibrate. I opened it up and it was a text from Hiccup.

"Hey Mer ;)" Hiccup and I talk a lot. Our friends tease us about being together, while everyone else thinks we are together, but we're not! I mean, what would happen if Hiccup and I did get together? Wait, what am I thinking?!

"Hey Hic :)" I text back. Hiccup has been my friend since Kindergarden. Ever since our friendship has grown closer. We started hanging out after school when we started freshman year. People started thinking that Hiccup and I were together when at Junior Prom when I didn't have a date and Astrid, Hiccup's ex girlfriend, left him for Hans Westguard. So Hiccup and I just hung out together and actually had a great time. But things have been awkward between is after that so we manly talk over text now so people don't suspect anything.

"What you doing Mer?"

"Nothing really. You?"

"Just talking to you ;)" My heart skips a beat. What?! Did I seriously just say that?!

"Aww thnx." I type back. Did I seriously just type that?

"Mer?"

"Yeah?''

''Are you ok?''

"Why?"

"Cause you never thank me."

"Oh. But no I'm fine thanks for asking.''

"Ok but are you sure? You just thanked me again.''

''Maybe I'm just trying to be nice for a change?"

''Mer you don't have to change. You're already a nice and amazing person :)"

"Thanks Hic but I have to go now. Dads calling."

"It's Ok I understand. I should get going anyways. Meet me at the spot?" Hiccup and I found a spot behind the school freshman year but we told no one so it would be our little thing. And ever since people thought we were together, we would meet secretly and just... talk. And honestly, it was really nice.

"I'll meet you at the spot :)"

"Bye"

"Bye" I put my phone in my pocket and left my room. I almost fell down the stairs from one of my brothers, Hamish, followed by Harris and Hubert.

" You little b.."

"MARIDA!" My mother yells at me as she also cut me off.

"A lady does NOT use that kind of language!" She angrily continues. I just huff and stomp down stairs. I storm to the fridge and grab apple and put on my black converse.

"Merida! Come join us!" Father yells to me.

"I can't." I take a bite of me apple. "I'm meeting up with Hiccup!" I open up the door and my cat Angus runs in, ribbing himself around my legs.

"Bring him her some time! I want to meet the lad!" My cheeks turn pink so I look out the door.

"Ok." And I leave out the door. I walk out to the garage and get in my blue Ford truck.

I get to the school parking lot and see Hiccup's car already there. I get out and walk onto the campus. Then I get the the back of the school and see the bent part of the fence and go under it. I see Hiccup sitting against our tree, playing with the fish in the pound. I smile and walk closer. I place my hand on his shoulder. He looks up at me and I sit beside him.

"Uh hey Mer." He nervously smiles.

"Hey. Are you ok?" I ask

"Uh yeah yeah."

"You sure? You seem, nervous." I'm actually really worried for Hiccup. He's my best friend.

"Yeah I'm fine. Hey Mer?"

"Yeah."

"Can I ask you something?" My heart starts beating faster but I don't know why.

"Oh course you can. You can talk to me about anything." I put my hand on his shoulder. He looks at my hand and starts to blush but why?

"Mer what do you think would happen if we... we." Hiccup couldn't continue talking. What was so bad? He knows he can talk to me about anything.

"Never mind. It was a stupid question."

"Come on Hic. Please tell me." I ask. I just realized how close we were to each other. I could feel my cheeks burning up. Hiccup took my hand and held it. Now I could feel my cheeks turning as red as my hair.

"Mer you ok?" He asks. I look down at the pond. Hiccup moved my hair away from my face. I looked back up at him. Hiccup slowly moved in until our lips were touching. I was in shock but I didn't mind it. My eyes were wide open as well as Hiccups. He quickly pulled away.

"Mer I'm so sorry I... I don't know what came over me!" Hiccup panics.

"Hiccup. It's ok." I say trying to clam him.

"What?" He was shocked and moved back a bit. I lean in and peck him on the lips. My eyes closed but his open.

"I said I didn't mind in." I smile faintly.

"You... You didn't?" He now seems happy yet nervous. I laugh a bit.

"No I didn't Hic." He light up.

"Do you want to go out with me?'' He asks quickly.

"You ... you mean like, on a date?"

"Yeah!"

"Sure!" I agreed

"So does this mean I'm officially mean I'm your girlfriend?" I ask smirking.

"Only if it makes me your boyfriend?" Hiccup says while smirking also. I kiss him on the lips. He kisses me back and I almost don't hear the bell ring.

"Does that answer your question?"

"I think it does!" Hiccup stands up, offering his hand to me. "I think we should get to class.'' I smile and take his hand. We walk together hand in hand.

"See you after class." He says.

"See you after class." I kiss him quickly on the lips and head to class.
