"Ah, hello, Natasha. Is there something I can help you with?" Violet's mother asks after swinging open the door.
"Uhm, yeah. Can I talk to Vi?"
"Yes, come on in," she steps to the side and let's me enter, "she should be in her room, but you know that already."
I laughed lightly, hiding the worry for my friend behind a smile. Before Mrs. Taylor could say another word, I slid my shoes off and sprinted up the carpeted staircase.
Reaching her door, I begin to knock wildly.
"Vi? Vi! I know you're in there, open the door!"
To my surprise Violet opens her door and greets me with a pretty little smile.
"Hey, Nash, what's up?" She asks, gesturing for me to enter her pale pink room.
I looked at her with a face that read "excuse me, you know very much why I am here."
She chuckled nervously, "Ah, yeah...about that..."
I raise an eyebrow, gesturing for her to continue.
She sighed, "Look, I'm sorry for disappearing but I just got kind of upset. Like, really upset. And I just couldn't say anything."
"Really? I hadn't noticed." I say, sarcasm filling my voice.
"Nash I'm sorry, ok? I freaked out and didn't know what to say," Vi pleaded, getting a little annoyed.
"Alright fine, whatever. All that matters is that you're ok. But seriously, Vi, don't freak me out like that! I swear for a second I thought you were going to commit suicide over this guy," I say, my irritation being replaced with amusement.
She punched me playfully in the arms before laughing.
"Yeah, ok so I overreacted a little bit. But I really do like him, Nash. I actually cried a little."
"I know, I know. I'm sorry, this really sucks, and he was a nice guy, too," I wrap my arms around her and I feel her sniffle in the embrace.
"Hey, no, no crying dude. Seriously, he's just some boy, and besides," I push her away so she can see my silly smile, "knowing 'Makeup Face' she's going to break up with him soon for some stupid reason and he'll be free again while she goes off and finds someone else."
Luckily, that put a smile on her face and she wiped her tears off on her sleeve.
"Alright. Well thanks Nash. I feel a little better. And yeah you're right. No doubt Cindy's gonna break up with him soon. But even still, why would such a nice guy like him want to date a stuck up, prissy girl like her?" Vi asks, pulling out her homework.
"Girl, trust me, I have no idea either," I reply as we begin our math practice.

"Hold up, Vi, it's my mom," I sit up straight and grab my phone.

Me: "Hello? Mom?"

Mom: "Yeah, Natasha, where are you?"

Me: "I'm at Violet's house, remember?"

Mom: "Yeah, that's what you told me. But why aren't you home yet? It's eight o'clock and you're still not home. Have you not finished your homework?"

Violet and I had breezed through the homework and had been stalking people on Instagram for the last two hours.

Me: "...yeah we finished..."

Mom: *raises voice* "Then why aren't you home? I want you back here right now! Dinner's already over. I hope you ate something there because you're not getting anything at home!" *hangs up*

I sigh, running a hand through my hair. I start to pick up all my stuff and shove it in my bag.

"I gotta go, Vi. My mom's mad. Like, really mad," I sigh again, picking up my bag and making my way downstairs.

"Ok, seeya!" I hear Violet yell before she slams her door shut.

I quickly wave goodbye to Mrs. Taylor and then run out the door. It's not even dark outside yet but I know that when I get home, everyone's going to be asleep.

When I get home, I gently push the front door open, being careful not to let the door squeak. Once inside, I turn around to close it.

"Ahem"

I whip my head around to see my mom standing there furious with fire practically coming out of her eyes.

"H-hey, Mom," I say timidly.

"I don't want any excuses or explanations. I'm not going to ground you but take this as a warning that if you stay out this late without telling me again, you are getting your phone and laptop taken away for a week. Now, eat something from the fridge and go to bed. Goodnight," she says and storms off to sleep.

I watch her as she leaves and then trudge up the stairs. I plop down into my bed and fall asleep immediately, not even bothering to change my clothes.
