The First (Half-)Day

Beautiful cotton clouds tickle my face as I laugh blissfully. The electric green grass caresses my bare feet as I run and slip. The warm smell of earth rises up to my nose as I smile, laying on Mother Nature's carpet. A curious little creature scuttles up my still arm and comes to rest on the tip of my nose. The ant opens it's miniscule mouth and yells, with startling volume, "Wake up, Natasha! You're going to be late!".

"OH GOOD LORD!" I yell as I shoot up in my bed. My mother looks at me with a growing frown and practically drags me to the bathroom.

"Get dressed and come downstairs, you're going to be late." Mom says before hurrying away to wake my brother up. I sigh and do as she says.

I picked a casual outfit that I thought would be perfect for my first day of eighth grade. I wore a green and blue striped T-shirt and a sleeveless black cardigan (as you can see, I'm not all that into pink). I threw on some dark blue skinny jeans and brushed my hair. The old brush kept getting caught in my long, brown hair and I had to repeatedly force the brush out of my tangled locks.

After getting ready, I run downstairs nearly bursting with excitement. I pour myself a bowl of Cocoa Puffs and devour the chocolatey cereal as fast as I can. After drinking the milk, I get up and put on my bright green converse high tops (http://www.polyvore.com/converse_chucks_ct_spec_hi/thing?id=29028724). It was pretty hot out so I found no reason to take a jacket. I gave my mom a quick kiss on the forehead before grabbed my bookbag and running out the door.

Once I got to school, I was immediately bombarded with questions about my summer by my friends. I really had nothing to talk about so I just gave them a bit of a SUMMER-y. (A/N HAHAHA GET IT? Summary, summer-y? Natasha was discussing her summer? Oh nevermind...) Overhead, we heard the school bell ring and rushed to our first class of the year.

My first four classes were Band, Homeroom, English, and Math 1 (I was taking a freshmen class, most kids were in Math 8) . Of course, since it was the first day of school, we didn't do any actual learning. We pretty much just learned about our teachers and talked about our summers. It was extremely laid back. After those classes, I had a lunch period with two of the friends I had mentioned earlier, Cynthia and Violet.

Cia and Vi went to get some lunch while I found us and empty table. I plopped down onto the cold bench and opened my lunch box. My mom had packed me a Nutella sandwich, banana, and a little box/pouch of chocolate milk. I turned around to check on my friends and saw they were pretty far back in line. Sighing, I turned back to my sandwich and began to eat, realizing how hungry I really was.

I finished my sandwich and was halfway through my banana when my friends finally took a seat in front of me.

"Gosh, the line was so long," Vi said as she smiled and apologized for making me wait.

Cia poked her food with a disgusted look on her face, "Looks like the food hasn't improved in quality this year either. Sometimes I wonder whether the lunch ladies get bad food on purpose, just to watch us suffer," she said.

I just laughed and my friends and kept eating. Just as I thought, Vi started rambling on and on about this hot boy she met over the summer and how she thought they were "TOTES MEANT TO BE". All of sudden Violet stopped talking and stared into space behind me. I looked up from my chocolate milk and raised an eyebrow at her.

"You alright there, Vi?" I asked, snapping my fingers in my dazed friend's face. She simply told me to turn around.
