The following week we hung out every day after my shift at the coffee shop. And finally the day arrived when we took off to las vegas.
He picked me up in a rather... questionable looking van. I could tell the van used to be white at some point maybe like, 30 years ago.

"Ready to roll?" he asked taking off a pair of sunglasses to put in his pocket.
"No, I am, I'm just not sure she is." I said referring to the old dirty car.
"What do you mean? Amelia's in perfect condition!" he smiled.
"I don't know if it's the fact that you named your clearly damaged car after a woman who disappeared and never came back, or it's the fact that you wear sunglasses during the winter, but I don't believe, nor do I trust you."
"The snow's melted, it's almost fall."
"Still stupid to wear sunglasses. It's still winter."
"That's it. I'm getting you a pair on the way there." he said putting the sunglasses on again.
"Is that really necessary?" I asked smiling at his stupid sunglasses.
He nodded and opened the door for me to hop in.

The first few hours we just spent talking while blasting some radio.
He told me about how he got the car from his mom, which caused us to talk about family.
I told him about my family.
Now that I thought of it, I did miss my parents and my brother. My older brother Eric was a pain in the ass at times, but the day I left, I saw a whole different side of him. I had made it clear that they couldn't do anything to stop me from moving and my parents didn't talk to me until after I came to the states. But the day I went to go take the plane, my older brother was there at the airport. He told me he didn't want me to leave, but I should, for me.
That was the first time I ever saw him cry. My brother was this buff guy who only seemed to care about girls and protein drinks. A lot of girls in my hometown hated him. He was the type of guy to sleep with girls and never talk to them again. But that day he told me that there was one girl he would do anything for. Me. His baby sister.

"Here." Luke said stopping the car.
I looked around and nothing seemed to be around, except this little gas station.
"Here what?" I asked in confusion.
"I need gas on the car, and you need some sunnies." he smiled.

The store had so many things in such a tiny space, it was unreal.
After Luke paid for gas he came up to me looking at their selection of books.
"I got us orange juice and cigarettes, now we just need some sunglasses for you."
"I haven't smoked in over two years."
"It's about time you start again then. How about these?" he asked handing a pair of red sunglasses.
"I like them." I replied with a smile.
"Good, because I already sort of bought them. Now put them on."
I put them on and smiled at him. We both looked ridiculous.
