Chapter One: Telling The Twins
"No dad, I can't see them. You don't understand." I tried to explain.
"No Chloe, you don't understand, they need you. It's been a week, you can't keep hiding forever. They're two. They don't understand that mommy and Bella are gone and I don't know how to explain it. Your grandma has just been telling them that you've been sleeping and that we can't go see you. Your mom always had a way with words that I've never understood. You got that from her. Chloe I need your help please."
"Bring them in here dad, but please don't tell anyone else that I'm awake. PLEASE." I turned my attention back to the now silent television. I don't want them in here. I love my little sisters but I don't want to see them yet.
A few minutes later dad came in carrying a fussy Alex, Gracey following calmly behind. There's a large age gap between me and the twins because my mom had a few miscarriages and such. Bella was an accident when my mom was 19 just out of high school and my dad was 20. I came three years later also on accident while my parents were trying to plan a wedding. The wedding got put off for a while. Three years later the wedding finally happened and they decided they wanted another baby. MY mom had two miscarriages and carried one baby full term but it was still born. After the stillborn they gave up but then mom, after some miracle, fell pregnant with twins.
Gracey saw me first and screamed "Loey!" Since at two years old they can't pronounce Chloe. After Alex heard her she stopped fighting and also let out a scream of "Loey!" I've been the twins favorite sister since they were born. Bella was already 17 and was always going out with her friends since she could drive. I was only 14 though and couldn't go anywhere so I helped my mom take care of the twin terrors. They are exactly identical in every way except their personalities. While both being daddy's girls, Alex is more crazy while little Aubrey Grace is more calm and shy.
Aubrey Grace has two first names because, while everybody loved the name Alexandria, we couldn't decide on either Aubrey or Grace. Since we were 14 and 17, mom and dad wanted to involve us in the naming process. Mom and I fell in love with the name Grace, but Dad and Bella liked Aubrey so we just used both and ended up with Alexandria Marie Aaron and Aubrey Grace Danielle Aaron. Their middle names are after our grandmothers, Marie Matthews and Danielle Aaron.
"Remember to be careful around Loey. She has lots of owies." Dad said as he sat Alex down beside me and picked up Gracey and set her with Alex.
"Loey, Daddy said you woke up and we could come see you. We missed you." Alex said.
"You sleeped a lot Loey," Gracey added.
"I had to sleep a lot so my owies would feel better. I missed you guys too."
And then Alex uttered what I dreaded. "Loey where's Mommy and Ella?" Tears came to my eyes and dad started to walk towards the door. They just stared at me as if I knew all the answers in the world. How was I going to tell them that mommy and Bella were never coming back?
"Well mommy and Bella are angels now, watching over all of us from heaven."
"What's an angel?" Gracey spoke up from beside me.
"What's heaven?" Alex asked at the same time.
"When people need to leave earth they become angels and move to heaven. They can grow big white wings if they want to and they can do anything that they want. They can see the other people that had to leave and have lots of fun. Mommy and Bella will miss us lots just like we miss them. We won't be able to see them anymore but they can still see us and they will be able see us and keep us safe. Whenever you miss them just know that they are right here." I poked both of them right at their hearts and they giggled just a little
"But Loey why did they have to leave?" Gracey asked with a pout on her face.
"Sometimes people have to leave, I don't know why." Dad walked back into the room as soon as I finished talking.
"Thank you Chloe," dad said. "Do you want me to take them back to grandma's house or do you want them to stay here?"
"Daddy I want to stay with Loey. It smells at nana's house," Gracey protested.
"They can stay here, just help me get them situated so nobody falls. Put the rails up, okay now move Gracey to this side. Okay now hand me the remote, please. Thanks dad, now go get some good food." Dad left the room and I turned to the twins. "Now what do we want to watch?"
"Disney!!"
"Okay Disney it is then." I found the channel and then laid back as the girls cuddled into my sides. Thirty minutes later both of them have fallen asleep and I'm soon to follow.
Dad came back just as I was falling asleep pushing the twins bassinet stroller. They have so many different strollers, this one is pink and black, it's basically a bed big enough for both of them to fit and the top is completely covered except for the back so the pusher of the stroller can see the children inside. One by one he laid them in the stroller and covered them up.
"I'm going to stay at grandma's tonight with the girls I'll be here first thing in the morning though, I promise. I love you Chloe." Dad told me.
"I love you too Dad." He kissed me on the forehead and left as I drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
