I woke up to my annoying, yet helpful alarm clock. I groaned. My body was sore and stiff. I finally climbed out of bed and wobbled over to my closet. I picked some long skinny jeans, a cute halter top and a light sweater and strode to the bathroom.
I hopped into the shower and sang one of my favorite songs, Gold by Britt Nicole.
This.. This for girls, Boys all over the world
Whatever you've been toldYou're worth more than Gold
So put your head up high
It's your time to shine
From the inside, out it showsYou're worth more than Gold.
I got out of the shower and pulled on my clothes. My foster mom, Wendy Darling, was making breakfast and the scent of batter filled my room.
"Elyse! Come on hon! You're going to be late!" I heard her shout.
I sighed. High school sucked! I stomped downstairs and saw my foster brother, Andy eating oatmeal.I snuck up behind him and screamed, "BOO!!" Andy yelped and tipped over his oatmeal on the tablecloth.
I was trying so hard not to laugh but I somehow ended up on the floor laughing my head off. Andy walked over to me and started tickling me!
I managed to say through my hysterical laughing,"Stop Andy! I..... I can't breathe!"
He stopped and offered me a hand. I was about to take it he pulled his hand away and said, "Nope!" I laughed. My foster mom exclaimed, "Elyse I would expect better from a 17 year old! You and Andy pick up this mess this instant!" I just laughed and helped Andy.
We washed the dishes and set them in the dishwasher.
"Pick me up after school?" Andy asked me.
"Of course!" I replied.I packed up my books and said my goodbyes to 'Mom' and Andy. I decided to walk to school since it's only a mile walk.
I put in my earphones and started listening to my playlist. I couldn't wait to see my friend Henry Mills! He was my only friend in Storybrooke, besides Katie, she was a fiery, sarcastic girl and hated drama.
I heard my phone ring. I picked it up.
"Where are you?" I heard a girl ask. Katie.
"Sorry. I got up late and I'm walking to school." I said."Well hurry up or you'll get in trouble.. Again." She giggled and hung up.
I sped to school and entered it as soon as the bell rang. I entered a classroom and sat down at a small desk.
"Finally!" I heard Katie sigh behind me. I giggled. Our teacher, Mr. Derek wasn't in the room so I turned around and faced her.
"Shut up!" I slapped her hand playfully. She made a pretend sad face."Hey bitch!" A disturbing and hoarse voice called. I groaned and turned around.
"What the hell do you want?" I asked the slutty girl in front of me. Her name was June."What do I want?" She scoffed then slammed her hand against the desk, "I want nothing. I'm just calling you what you really are."
"You're the bitch!" Katie mumbled loudly and stood up. Her fashionable jeans and flouncy top stood out. Everyone was watching.
"You're no better! You both are freaks and not worth being here!" She shouted. Katie's hands clenched tightly. June smirked and sat down at her desk.
As soon as June sat her ass down, Katie stuck both of her middle fingers in the air, towards her. June flipped her hair and spotted Katie. Her mouth became wide in disgust. I giggled.
*********
I jogged out of the school and walked around to the other side of it to pick up Andy. Our county didn't have the funds to build a high school so we have the elementary students share the school with the high schoolers.I started thinking about June said.
Was I a freak? Would I ever be adopted? I shook off that feeling and saw Andy walking towards me.
"Hey." He said.
"Hey you dork." I replied and ran my hand through his tousled hair."Race you home." He suddenly said and bolted out of my reach, I laughed and started running. After about 10 minutes of full on sprinting, we finally made it to the house and I slammed my hand against the door and yelled to Andy who was a bit behind me, "I win! Sucker!"
I opened the door and Andy walked inside, breathing hard and bent over gasping for air. I took off his backpack and mine as well.
"You okay?" I asked my foster brother and led him to the couch.Matter several minutes of heavy breathing and silence, he finally said,"Don't listen to that girl, June."
I was surprised by his words and responded with the obvious answer, "What?"
"Don't let her get to you. She's just jealous of you." He smiled, letting his adorable freckles stick out. That was the stupidest reason.
"Okay, mister. I've got homework, and you've got to do yours. I'll see you by dinner." I grabbed my backpack and quickly ran up the stairs, walked down our narrow hall and entered my room.
After torturous hours of reading, writing and studying, I walked to my window and sat down on my cozy window seat.
Staring at the luminous stars, full moon and the cold wind flowing through my blonde hair.
I sighed. I was eternally grateful for my foster family, but was never too fond of Wendy. She was a distant character. Always rearranging things, yelling and constantly stressed.
Although, Andy and I were a huge handful. But Wendy constantly corrected me, how funny was that?I closed my eyes, praying for a family who would take both Andy and me in, as their own children, but who wanted a stubborn, strong-willed 17 year old? I would be gone by the time they would adopt me.
I opened my eyes and one star caught my eyes, a pulsating, bright star shone amongst the others.
"Second star to the right and straight on till morning." I chuckled, thinking about when Wendy said that to us when we were younger. She'd explain why those stars were so important, to bring hope to the children. Cliche huh? I agree.
She used to be so kind and loving but then she turned somewhat rotten and very distant.
I stood up ready to go to bed but I wasn't able to move. I twisted my hips, trying to at least shift them but they didn't budge. I looked down and I saw two very dark, shadowy hands around my waist, holding them tightly.
The last thing I remembered was that the shadow looked like a young man.
