One week to the fight

That evening I told Louis and Harry about Evelyn going into a fight with a pro, Harry obviously disagreed about it, but Louis was all for it. This was typical Louis being Louis and Harry being Harry.

It was Harry and me against Evelyn and Louis, Harry would probably let Louis have his way, like he always did, and so that left just me, as I daily still tried to talk her out of it.

"Evie it's not that I don't think your talented enough to fight this chick, it's just I don't want you getting hurt, and I don't want you to be disappointed if you lose," Niall said.

"Niall... I love you, so much for caring, but you aren't going to talk me out of this... not something that's this important to me." Evelyn said.

"What's so important about it though?" Niall asked. "So important you half to risk your life to complete it?"

Evelyn laughed, "I risk my life everyday just going outside Niall... I like adventure, danger, excitement, this is it."

"I know you do... but how does that make ultimate fighting important to you?"

She sighed, reaching for her backpack to pack her things for school. "I don't want people thinking I'm weak, vulnerable, anymore. Nobody will hurt me ever again if I do this."

"So this is about what happened when you were fourteen?" Niall asked, "that's ridiculous Evelyn! That was years ago!"

She stopped to turn her body and face him. "Look, Niall! I know you don't care what they did to me anymore, but I do! He got out of prison, did you know that?" She paused, waiting for a response that never came. "He escaped a while ago, I don't know how long, but that's why I said yes to the fight... their leader... I heard it on the news. If he comes for me, or anyone of you again, I'll be ready for it this time. This fight, I mean if I win, it'll put my name out there. Nobody will ever hurt me, none of them will come." Niall was speechless, but somehow, he managed to jumble a sentence together.

"Y-you didn't tell me," he said quietly.

Evelyn's fingertips grazed the back of his hand. "I don't need you to worry about me constantly." She said. "I mean I love that you care... I really do, but I didn't want to put you through the stress. Wondering if I made it to school or back home. I couldn't do that to you. But now I'm stronger-"

"You can't fight him." He whispered in a broken voice.

She nodded, "no, I know, but I won't be as powerless as I was when I was fourteen."

Niall nodded, "I love you Evelyn.." he whispered. "Just promise me you won't go out looking for him or anything, okay?"

"I promise. I have no desire to see him ever, anyways." She assured him, Niall smiled, kissing her again . "But I do half to get to school now."

"I'll pick you up tonight after softball yeah?"

"Yeah." Evelyn said, planting a kiss on his mouth once more before hurrying out the door.

Three days to the fight

Evelyn had gradually been socializing more with her classmates, mostly the soccer and softball teams. On Friday she had been excused from soccer and softball practices for the fight that night. It was another Tuesday, so she had three days to prepare. Niall had been struggling to accept the fact that she was fighting, and no way was she going to change her mind. Louis and Harry would be there, and even Liam would be flying in with his wife and son from England. The whole family would be there, which meant a lot to Evelyn.
