Carolina's Pic ^

Carolina's POV

Many people question if there really was a god. If so, where was he? How come there are so many people suffering? Where was our protector? Where was god? I'll tell you where he is. He's on vacation. Clearly there is a god but he's just too busy relaxing on a sandy beach right now. A lot of my friends find my theory stupid but I didn't care. I knew there was a god. He saved me many times from either being seriously injured or death. However, today was the day where I realized the lord truly did exist. I was finally free from the man that hurt me for years.

"Ma'am, are you hurt?" a husky man approached me with a gun in his hand. His eyes were alert but there was hint of worry. Two more officers followed behind him. They eyed me sharply and remained behind the first officer. They reminded me of a loyal German Sheppard.

"Ma'am" The first officer whispered again. I made eye contact with him. He looked trustworthy. His warm, chocolate eyes made me feel safe. He slowly placed his gun away and held out his hand. The two police officers' eyes were locked onto me. They were ready to aim if I tried anything funny.

"I promise I won't hurt you," murmured the police officer. Without giving it another thought, I slipped my hand in his. He pulled me up and carried me in his arms. Normally I would blush heavily at the thought of being carried by a strong man. However, today was a different day. My cheeks were stained with tears and my clothes were covered in blood.

"I slit his throat." I spoke softly to the officer. My eyes were trained on the corpse in my living room. My father's dead eyes were staring right back at me. Those eyes are going to haunt me for the rest of my life.

"Why would you do that?" the officer asked. The cool wind blew against my face as we came outside. The lights of the cop cars were blinding me. I turned away and faced the man who helped me.

"My father beat me...a lot." I began slowly. I lifted my shirts to show the new scars and few of the old ones. The officer's face was covered in horror. These weren't just bruises. My father was a very sadistic man. He used knives, glass and anything that could fuck me up.

"You never reported this to anyone?"

"No"

The officer just stared at me. Pity was the only emotion written on his face. I looked away because I despised when people pitied me. The neighbors always had this face whenever I walked by their homes. Everyone knew what a monster he really was. Behind those false smiles and charming personality, they could see the devil that beat the living shit out of his daughter.

"Come this way," the officer said as he led me to his police car. I sat in the back as he and his partner slipped in the front seat. I glanced back at the house that was being swarmed by police officers. We passed the neighbors who sent me a sad look.

The police station finally appeared after ten minutes. Both police officers exchanged words quietly before exiting the car. The nice police officer opened the door for me and walked beside me. The scent of vomit caught my attention which caused me to make a face. There was a drunken man in handcuffs that was barfing in the hallway.

"What the hell?" one of the officers yelled at the drunk. A lot of screams and curse words were being said. I shut the voices out of my head as I thought about my future. I knew I wasn't going to jail since I was defending myself. I had backup on this too. My friends and neighbors knew the man that my father was.

But where was I going to go?

I have no family except for...my mother.

Realization hit me like a cold bitch. I would have to move in with the woman who abandoned me. I despised her more than anything. In all honesty, I would rather be beaten by father again then go live with her. However, I do wonder if things would've been different if she stayed.

Would we be close?

Before I started asking more questions, I stopped myself. This woman was the reason behind why my father went berserk. Not to mention, she took away my only sibling. I smiled softly at the thought of my older brother. His name was Johnny and should be twenty-two. We were close as kids but then he disappeared with mom.

"We checked your files and called your mother for you." The nice officer stated. I didn't say anything to him. I was honestly pissed off. Now, I was slowly wishing I didn't kill my father. I should've just let him beat me into a coma.

I nodded without meeting the officer's eyes. I didn't have to look up to see if the officer was worried about me or not. I knew he was. My eyes were on my bloody covered clothes. It had just occurred to me how disgusting I looked. I got three words for you. Sweat, blood and tears. That's what I looked like right now.

"You want to get cleaned up?" the officer asked politely. I glanced up and nodded slowly. He led me to a bathroom with some clean clothes and a towel. I clutched the sweatpants and white shirt tightly before going inside the bathroom.

I automatically gazed at the mirror in front of me. My eyes bulged as I saw my appearance. I was drenched in my father's blood. My arms had small patches of dried blood. There were also small bruises on my arms. I had a black eye and my upper lip was definitely swollen. I also had small cuts on my legs from my father's knife. I had to close my eyes. I didn't want to see this again. Not anymore. I want to move on from all of this. I turned the hot water on and splashed my face. I washed my arms and legs with a wet towel. I wasn't cleaned all the way but at least there was no blood. I checked my reflection again and saw that I was blood free.

My eyes and lips were still swollen. I rinsed my hair once more before exiting the bathroom. The officer was standing there with a small smile. I managed to look at the name plate on his chest.

Officer Ashmore

I thoroughly examined the man that helped me a lot. Officer Ashmore had to be in his early thirties. He was a tall guy. I think he's around 6'1 or 6'2. He was an average looking man.

"Are you done checking me out Ma'am?" he chuckled with a small smile. I blushed as I saw the humor twinkle in his eyes.

"Well, your mother and brother are here." He stated in a complete serious tone. My face went pale as I thought about what he said. They're here already?

"I thought they lived far?" I questioned.

"Well actually they live in Maryland so this was an hour drive for them." informed Officer Ashmore as he began walking toward the door. He expected to follow but I stood frozen. They lived an hour away from me.

"What's wrong Ma'am?" he asked.

"My name is Carolina." I stated through my teeth. Tears began to spill down my cheeks. I was shaking as I thought about my mother being in the same place as me. Officer Ashmore realized that I wasn't feeling well so he ran to my aid.

"I'm sorry," I breathed deeply. "I didn't mean to be rude." I whispered as he held me in his arms. He shushed me like I was a crying child. I inhaled his scent deeply and sank into his comfort. He smelled wonderful and I felt safe in his arms. The woodsy and cinnamon smell made me want to hold onto him longer. He ran his hand through my hair as he whispered soothing words.

It was strange that a man that I met today made me feel safe. I didn't know anything about him yet he just made me feel comfortable. Officer Ashmore broke the hug and looked me in the eyes. He had small wrinkles under his eyes. I could tell this job affects him a lot.

"Everything is going to be alright. I know things seem...fucked...at the moment but everything will fall into place. It always does." He said quietly. I couldn't help but giggle when he said "fucked". It sounded so foreign coming from his mouth. I guess he wasn't the cursing type.

"I'm going to give my number so call whenever." Officer Ashmore said as he handed me a small card. I read the card and saw that his name was Pete Ashmore. I wiped my eyes and smiled brightly at him.

"Thanks Pete."

We walked outside together to see the woman who I blamed for everything in my life.
