Walking down the street to Steven's, Liam started to get nervous. Sure, he knew all of the lyrics and all of the improvisations he needed to do, but he was nervous. He wasn't sure who they were going up against and he'd never been in this kind of- "LIAM" Louis interrupted Liam's thought.
"Yeah, Lou?"
"Why are you so nervous?"
"How did you know I was?" Liam said, astonished.
"Well let's see. You wear your heart on your sleeve and are very obvious when you're nervous because you start to blush because you are nervous and insecure about being nervous and insecure."
"Oh shut up."

"Alright," Louis said, walking in front of the doors of Stevens. "Here we are. Ready?"
"No. But let's do this." Liam smiled, looking into Louis' eyes as he opened the door, accidentally hitting Louis.
"OHMYGOD LOU IM SO SORRY" Liam blushed, instinctively putting his hands on Louis' hips. "ARE YOU OKAY?!"
"I'm fine, babe. You just hit my shoulder." Louis replied, laughing at Liam's blushing.
Louis opened the door, looking at Liam's rosy cheeks. "After you."

"STEVEN'S HOW ARE WE DOING TONIGHT?!" Louis and Liam heard an Australian voice yelling to a crowd of 3,000, met with an uproar of applause and cheers. Steven's was a huge place and everyone who loved music in that town was there, along with the ones outside waiting in line.
"Who is that?" Liam asked Louis, who had a program in his hands, which contained all of the battles for that night and the DJ, who Louis said his name was "Calum. He's the bar's DJ who basically plays all the tracks and introduces the battles. See? He has a setup over there." Louis pointed out, pointing towards the Mac computer, strobe lights, and launch pad.
"Oh I see. Should we go and find someone? We are battling." Liam replied, looking around.
"Yeah. We should. Okay let's go find someone."

After finding a bartender, they were sent to a room where all the people who had battles were to wait until there's.
Louis looked at his program, trying to figure out who was who.
Louis was interrupted by the opening of a door and Calum coming in and saying "Alright I need the first battle which is Hunter Hayes and Sam Hunt."
Two fit boys stood up, one with a Johnny Cash tee and jeans, the other with a Taylor Swift and khakis.
Liam looked at his fashion choices and judged him silently.

"Li." Louis whispered to Liam
"Yeah, Lou?" Liam whispered back.
"Who do you think we're going up ag-"
Just then, Liam and Louis heard the door open and the Australian boy came back in and said, looking up from a clipboard with a smile, "We need the league two newbies."
"I guess that's us." Liam and Louis said simultaneously.
"You guys will be battling whoever wins between Vance Joy and Birdy. I assume you have your track? The way it works here is that you tell me your track and I'll put it on so you can do your thing. So tell me what it is and I'll queue it up!"
"Sweater Weather." Louis smiled, looking at Calum's hair, Liam
getting a dark, jealousy filled look in his eyes.

"THAT SETTLES IT! BIRDY IS GONNA BATTLE LILO! GET UP HERE, GUYS! LET'S DO THIS!" Calum screamed excitedly into his mic as he ran to his Mac computer on the side of the stage, queueing up Sweater Weather.
Liam and Louis walked up onto the stage, Liam smiling out of nervousness, but his smile covered by the darkness.
As the start of Sweater started to play, Louis' mind instantly cleared as he put the mic up to his lips and sang,

But I stand
Liam came in softly getting louder, their voices gelling together perfectly,

Use the sleeves of my sweater

Louis, gaining a bit of confidence, sang a bit louder by himself,

Liam's part came up, but something strange happened that Liam had never felt within himself. He felt perfect. He felt infinite as Louis started to sing, Liam joining in a half rest later,

They finished softly, met with the crowd's applause and cheers as Birdy came on stage to do her song.
Her lips slowly opened as her hands fingered the piano keys, singing softly..

"That was.. Brilliant, once again, Birdy. But now we gotta vote."
Liam was practically sweating while Louis calmly moved his hands on his stomach to calm himself.
"Alright, Steven's. We gotta vote for our winners. Who wants to give it to our last champ Birdy?!"
He was met with loud applause and cheers, so loud no one hears anything for blocks.
"Who wants to give it up to our newbies LILO?!" He was met with equal applause. This has never happened before.
"Wow. Steven's. We've got a tie."
