I guess I had fallen asleep because I woke up and realised the train was slowly stopping.

"Which stop now?" I question Ash hoping somehow we were nearly there.

"Paris" He says, without looking up from his phone.

'ATTENTION ALL PASSENGERS: This is your captain speaking, we have arrived in PARIS. The crew and I are taking a half an hour break here, we encourage you to get off the train for some fresh air. It is four fifty am and you MUST be back on the train for five twenty am. We shall be leaving then, no exceptions. That is all' He clicked off and we were back to silence.

"A break?" I mumble, wanting to get on with the journey.

"Quit you're moaning, why don't we get off for a short while" Ash offers and I shake my head.

"I don't know...I don't want to miss the train" I say and catch him rolling his eyes.

"We'll be like, ten minutes"

"Ten minutes?" I narrow my eyes, a little fresh air could help.

"Yep. Ten minutes" He chuckles.

"Fine" I stand up after him.

"Fine" He says back and I try not to laugh, and just like that, I'm following this stranger off the train.

The cold air hits me as soon as I step off. I glance down at my black cropped top and green trousers, (what a girl can't be stylish?) I spin round towards the door, "just gotta get my jacket" but it's too late, the doors are locked and we'd have to walk all the way to the back to get in and walk to the front.

I turn back to Ash and he's sighing, "take this" he mutters and hands me his jacket.

"No way"

"I'm not cold!" He insists and throws the jacket so it hits me in the face.

"Fine" I say and put it on, warmth surrounding me.

I turn back to Ash but he's not looking at me, he's staring ahead and the long road with little dark shops and in the distance you could even see the Eiffel Tower. What was left of the Eiffel Tower.

"Where too then?" I say

"You know what they say" he turns back to me, "Paris is the city of love" and with that he marches off and I have to run to catch up with him.

"Do you have to walk so quickly?"

"Do you have to complain so much" He mimics back.

I glare at him, "I don't need you, you know"

He snorts, "are you kidding? have you even ever been to Paris?"

"Well, there was that one time with my dad...when I was five" I admit and he smirks triumphantly. "But I think I can work my way around a city" I had confidently.

"No one can work there way round a city" He scoffs

"I don't have to prove it to you!" I march into the cafe to my right. It's small, and cold with only a few old people in there, sipping their drinks quietly.

I walk right up to the  counter, "a cappuccino, to go" I say to the one lady who works that. She looked about mid thirties, very nervous and very quiet.

She quickly makes the drink and hands it to me in a container, "three eighty" she mutters and my eyes fly wide open.

"For a coffee?" I find myself saying and the lady goes shy again, nodding once. I dig out the money and give it to her before walking away to find Ash at the door with a goofy smile on his face. "Lets just go" I growl and he says nothing but follows me back onto the street. "What the hell has happened to Paris" I say, glancing around at the dark street.

"The war" Ash says smugly as if I had no idea about it.

I shake my head slowly and glance at my watch, "it's already been fifteen minutes maybe we should go back"

"Ok but why don't I take a picture? Just incase you never come back here" He offers and I shrug. He gets out his phone and I hold up my coffee, by the shop with a little smile. He takes it and shoves the phone back into his pocket. "Trust me Paris used to be so much nicer"

I frown, "you grew up here?"

"Something like that" he says, never giving away too much about himself and soon enough we're both walking back the way we came.

"Oh no" I snap my head to the left to see a little sad puppy being surrounded by boys laughing, it was backing away slowly and they were shouting at it. "Not the puppy" I say and hear Ash groan behind me.

"Probably not a good idea" He calls but I'm already walking over to them.

"Excuse me!" I reach them and they all turn to look at me, "What are you doing?!" I say, not really knowing what to do. I notice unclose they were all about seventeen/eighteen and clearly drunk.

Suddenly they burst out laughing, "Que Veux Tu?" (what do you want) One boy says and i frown, of course they were French.

"You need to leave" I say, confidence bursting through me.

The boys laugh again and pretend they don't know any English, one turns to his friends, "elle set jolie" (she is pretty) and they start making faces at each other.

"I don't know what you're saying but.." I mumble

"stupid!" the boy cries and they laugh so much one of them drops their beer and it shatters, scaring the puppy.

"Hey!" I say but before I can say anything else I hear footsteps pounding towards me.

"vous avez besoin au congé baisant!" (you need to fucking leave) Ash shouts at the guys. "avant que j'ai batty vows tous en haut" (before I beat you all up!)

And that seemed to do the trick, they walked off pretty quickly and I stared at Ash in amazement.

"So you know French?" I say and he rolls his eyes, picked up the puppy and put it in his ruck sack so it could poke its head out. It was the cutest thing I'd ever seen.

"I told you that was a bad idea" He huffs and makes his way back to where the train was with me following.

When we're nearly there I say, "I don't think they'll let the puppy on the train!"

We turn the corner and realise that the train was not there. It had gone.

"Somehow I don't think that will be a problem, Hannah" Ash says and runs his hands through his hair.

"HOW!" I scream and check my watch, "five twenty one" i whisper and Ash snaps his head towards me.

"This is all your fault. You just had to go save the puppy, you nearly got raped! You were so lucky I was there" I can't tell if he's shouting at me or giving himself an ego boost. "And now we've missed the train!"

"You wouldn't save a small helpless puppy?" the realisation hits me pretty quick, "Ash. I've left my back pack on there. MY RUCK SACK!"

"DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF? WE'VE MISSED THE TRAIN" This time he shouts so loud I wince. I shake my head and turn away, please don't cry, don't cry, don't cry. I manage to keep myself together. After a few minutes of silence Ash lets out a long sigh and puts his hand on my shoulder.

"I didn't mean to shout. Come on. I'll sort this out, we'll be back on the train in no time" He says softly and I nod, I had to believe him because it was me who got us into this mess.

"Fine"

"Fine."
