It's been two hours. I've been sitting on the uncomfortable fabric chair next to Declans hospital for two hours and he still can't seem to understand what's going on with our loyalty status.
"Gareth wants power and take over the world basically but Clarence wants to stop him. Do you understand that?" I ask Declan frustratedly.
Declan squints as if he's thinking really hard. "Sorta."
I blow out a frustrated breath and look out the window to the green pastures. Amber is talking and laughing with a lady that she made friends with at breakfast this morning. After a restless sleep last night I want nothing more than to curl up on a couch and watch a good movie. The last thing I wanted when I woke up was for my well needed breakfast to be interrupted by Declan finally waking up. Unfortunately Amber was being perfectly serious last night when she 'bags' not to explain stuff to Declan. Hence the reason why I am stuck with the idiot now.
"Honestly Declan, how hard is it really? Is your brain that small?" I through my arms out in annoyance. I've wanted to slap someone on the face a lot in my life. Out of those many times, ninety percent of the time it's Declan that I wanted to slap. Right now would be the time that I finally full fill that wish if I wasn't concerned about Declans lack of brain cells. Since he doesn't have many I force myself not to.
"Oi, go a little easy would you? I've lost a lot of blood. My brain isn't functioning properly."
Ya think?! I want to scream at him but don't because I know that it probably won't help the situation much. "Look I'll explain it one more ti-"
"Ah, I see you're still having some difficulty in getting the point across." Clarence appears behind me without me noticing him.
"N-n-no S-sir." Declan stutters visibly tensing up. I roll my eyes at him. The only thing that seems to get understood in Declans big head is the fact that Clarence as well as everyone else here except Clark is a Hogmer.
Declans fear doesn't go unnoticed by Clarence. He pauses for a moment before smiling gently but still unsurely at Declan. "Relax, I'm not going to hurt you. Promise." He goes to pat Declan on the shoulder, Declan tenses even more and leans away from him. When Clarence sees this he only smiles slightly before turning and leaving. As he goes seemingly unaffected by Declans distress I can see the distinct look of hurt in his eyes.
I can't help but feel sorry for him. His specie was created to keep the peace, his batch though, was created to take control over humans and every other living creature. I haven't known Clarence for long but I know him enough to know that he doesn't want to be known as the creature that destroys, which is more what Hogmers are known for nowadays. Clarence wants to be a peacekeeper. The sad thing is that as much as he wants it, he'll never be known as a peacekeeper. Even if he does manage to keep peace somehow after this war, people will still have that tiny urge of panic when he enters a room. He will never be treated like an equal for as long as he lives.
When the door lightly shuts after him leaving only Declan and I in the small infirmary I turn and give my worst glare at the now perfectly relaxed Declan. "Talk about racism, Declan! That was mean. He only wants to help and there you are being completely rude. You better apologise when we see him again."
"Well sorry mum. But that guy gives me the shivers as well as everyone else in this place. Clark included. He's more Hogmer than human too anyway. His brain is wired like one anyway." He mumbles the last part to himself.
"Did they give you the shivers before you knew what they really are?"
Declan avoids my question by looking longingly at he tray of food that I bought for him earlier. Deep down he knows that I'm right. Clarence, Clark and everyone else here have been nothing but nice to us ever since we've known them. Which is a little strange since practically all species hate them for something they haven't done. I know that if I were them I'd hate everyone that hated me for something I didn't do.
