Just in— Spotted: Queen Monet and her ice-cold heiress still running the city hand-in-hand... but when the flames of ambition start to singe even their allies, who gets left out in the cold? Stay tuned. xoxo. gossip girl
It was the kind of cold only winter in Manhattan could deliver—wind that sliced through silk-lined coats and the biting glare of paparazzi flashbulbs. Adelaide Kingsley didn't flinch. She stepped out of the car, hand-in-hand with Monet De Haan, her spine straight, her chin raised.
Ice, as always.
The gala was a social climb masked as a charity fundraiser—restoring some library in Brooklyn, she thought. What mattered was that the steps of The Met were lined with cameras, their every glance dissected. What mattered was that she and Monet were untouchable again.
At least publicly.
Privately, they were trying. Therapy had softened Monet's edges. Adelaide had finally shared what the aftermath of Diana's betrayal had done to her. They didn't touch every second like they used to, but when they did—it meant something again.
Still, the night reeked of tension. Julien hadn't spoken to Monet since the party fiasco. Luna was off brooding in Paris. And Zoya... well, no one had seen her since the protest outside Julien's canceled event.
Adelaide remained friends with all of them. They were her people. Even if Monet hated it.
"Smile, darling," Monet whispered, her hand resting low on Adelaide's back. "You're the crown jewel tonight."
Adelaide's lips curved, but the smile didn't touch her eyes. "Only because I have you to polish me up."
Monet laughed, but there was something brittle in it. Adelaide noticed—and said nothing.

Fire wasn't always pretty.
Sometimes, it burned too hot. Too fast. Sometimes, it scorched.
Monet De Haan knew she had that effect. On people. On rooms. On Adelaide.
Especially Adelaide.
Tonight, Monet kept one eye on the press and the other on Julien, who arrived with Max and Audrey. Adelaide broke away to greet them, slipping easily into old rhythms.
"Hey," Audrey said, touching Adelaide's shoulder gently. "How are you holding up?"
Adelaide shrugged. "I'm okay."
"Better since you two got back together," Max added, eyes drifting toward Monet. "But I'm guessing that's complicated."
Monet didn't move, but her jaw clenched. It was complicated. It always had been.
Adelaide was ice. Elegant, perfect, cold when she needed to be. And Monet? She was fire. Unapologetic. Dangerous, even. They weren't opposites, not really. More like forces of nature that carved the world in their image.
