"Good morning Ms. Kehlani and might I add happy birthday".
Kehlani sat still with tears in her eyes, laying in the mental hospital as she had been pronounced Baker rack. She looked down at the slit on her wrist as the nurse but her food in front of her. The cupcake with the melting pink candle only reminded her of her 14th Birthday.
*Flashback

There was banging on the door, Kehlani ran for it but was stopped by her Aunt. Her aunt opened it and there stood Kehlani's best friend Matikah, with a poorly wrapped gift and a huge smile.
"Hey Ms.Kristina"
"Hey Matikah c'mon in honey"
She entered and kehlani snatched the gift and both of the girls ran out the backdoor.
"Kehlani I didn't have enough tape to wrap your gift, I barely had money to buy it" Matikah fake laughed. Matikah and Kehlani both lived in a bad neighborhood where the least of there worries were being robbed of all of their toys. "Its okay, who cares for the paper anyway" Kehlani said trying to break the awkward situation.
"Tell me about what happened when I went home last night" Kehlani was referring to night before when Cordell had came over. "Ooh girl, we were sitting on the porch and he told me he liked me right, but I didn't want to say it back because I didn't know what he meant so I said thank you" Matikah said embarrassed. "No you did not say thank you " They both laughed.
"Then what happened"
Matikah grabbed her arm trying to hide the bruises her Dad had put on her. Kehlani new before Matikah even said anything and changed the subject as always. "Look there's Jordan let's go ness with him" they ran to Jordan's house but before they got there Matikahs dad had pulled in to the yard. "I have to go kehlani, see you tomorrow" she said jogging off. "I HOPE YOU LIKE YOUR GIFT!" she added. "I ALREADY LOVE IT , SEE YA" Kehlani ran home to see her aunt cooking her special dinner for her special day. "What did Matikah get you?". "I don't know I didn't look yet". Kehlani and her family ate dinner and opened her gifts from her aunt and cousins. She had forgotten about her gift from Matikah. She layed in her bed as she seen police lights race past her house but that was something she was use to.
"Ms.kehlani, you should blow out your candle". Kehlani blew out her candle and looked the nurse in the eye. "Thank you" Kehalni finally replied to her happy birthday.
"When am I going to get out of here?" "When you feel better Ms.Kehlani" Kehlani rolled her eyes.
"Happy birthday to you" In walked Kehlani's family with balloons and a birthday cake. Then kehlani knew she was going home.
