I stumbled down the stairs and across the hallway. And of course I managed to stub my toe in the midst of doing so. I felt a sharp pain shoot up my big toe and travel through my foot. I bent over to grab it but the lack of light made it nearly impossible for anything to go smoothly and before I knew it I was sitting on the floor rubbing a sore elbow that broke my fall.
To make matters worse I could hear something wobble above me. It sounded hollow and ceramic, like a pot or a vase about to fall. I looked around to see what it was but it was no use, the room was so dark I couldn't even see my own hand. The wobbling slowed down before there was a small thump and I could now hear rolling. Suddenly for a fraction of a second there was silence before an almighty clank. The object had made contact with the cold tiles of the hallway floor. It sounded as if shards of it went everywhere.
I pulled myself up and as I fumbled for a light switch. I suddenly heard a someone hiss at me. I looked up only to see my mother had woken up. She was scowling down at me from the top of the stairs.
"Jesus Wren! What the hell happened?!" She whispered loudly trying not to wake anyone up. I looked behind me to see the shattered vase with the two daffodils John had bought her, which were now scattered in a puddle of water on the floor. Mom loves daffodils, they're her favorite. She says they are "happy flowers", what ever that's supposed to mean. She probably loves those flowers more than she has ever loved me. That made me afraid of what could come next.
"Boy! I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!! Once your 18 you're clearing out of here! John and I only have to put up with just one more month of your shit! Absolutely can't wait. ", now she's shouting, " I mean do you even know what time it is?!!!" Her frown is so intence you can clearly make out all five crinkles embeded into her purple, red forehead. I say nothing. I don't dare look her in the eye, instead I keep my gaze on the broken vase and saturated flowers.
Suddenly John came round the corner and joined my mom at the top of the stairs. Still very much asleep he leaned himsleft against the banister ,"What in God's name is going on here? Oh crap! Wren do you even care about anything? Anyone but yourself? There are people trying to actually get some sleep, I mean it's four in the morning!"
"It's nothing honey go on back to bed, I'll be just a sec", Mom always spoke so kindly to John, rarely had a bad thing to say about him, although mind you I did. She really did love him, they were inseparable. That's partly why I dislike him so much.
"I want this cleaned up and a new vase with freshly cut daffodils placed on that desk by morning ", and with that they were gone.
Remembering my dream I headed to the kitchen. The tiles cool beneath my bare feet. I grabbed a pen and paper and scribbled it down before going back upstairs.
