A/N: I know I've been gone from this for like a year but I'm officially back fr. This chapter is basically a stand-alone alone and the next will get back into the plot of the show as well.

Sorry it's shorter than normal; hope you enjoy.

Pls don't be a silent reader

It had been about a month and a half now since Mickey transferred to Dalton with his brother. A month and a half since he'd blown up at Tina, breaking her nose, and marked himself as a terrifying figure for the McKinley students. He now attend Dalton, a preppy all boys boarding school which allowed him to enter a manageable and peaceful world.

At Dalton, Mickey didn't have to put on a front of daunting dominance to be unbothered. The boys were kind and friendly, talkative, but at his silence and social isolation they left him be. He became an observer, a loner, someone you were prone to see always sitting alone and contently so. He didn't try to make friends and only desired to finish the year out without any drama.

So he went to class, focused on his studies, talked with his brother, and minded his own. Mickey understood that alone was better and granted him a much needed peace after the betrayal he faced from a former friend.

The old Mickey of uncaring intensity, calculated, irritation, and popularity was now replaced with a Mickey of quiet movement, observation, and meaningful solitary.

It was a big change but it was needed.

Just as a break from it all.

He just needed a break.

"How's school?" Roger questioned, watching the teen that sat across from him carefully

"The same," Mickey answered shortly, rolling his eyes when Roger began to write down on his notepad,"You don't have to write," he muttered

"You've given me short responses since you got here. So I kinda do," Roger replied, his tone gentle as he spoke,"Have you made any friends or joined a club like your brother?"

"Why would I do that? I don't have a good experience with clubs," Mickey answered, shrugging

"You shouldn't let one experience stop you from trying again, Mick. Dalton is much different than McKinley, you've already told me that. They're welcoming, kind. I think you should give it a try," Roger told him, smiling encouraging as Mickey sighed

"Well, if I expect disappointment what's the point in trying. Either way I won't be fulfilled," Mickey said, raising a brow at the man,"And I don't need a friend. I have myself to worry about right now,"

"You're locking yourself away because you're scared of opening yourself up again. You're scared of being hurt and I get that, Mick, but you have to be positive about your situation," Roger explained, giving him a pointed look,"You have a chance at a new start. If you keep isolating yourself or distancing from a chance at something new than how can you get that? You have to give it a chance for yourself,"

Staring at him for a moment, Mickey sighed,"I didn't leave to get a new start. I left to get away from that shitty place with it's shitty people. I didn't come to Dalton to make friends, I just ran away," he muttered, looking both annoyed and shameful

"You didn't run away, Mickey. You took yourself away from a damaging place," Roger countered, a proud smile on his face,"Which honestly means you're healing and you're learning from past circumstances. You should be proud of yourself, not ashamed. You don't have to seclude yourself into loneliness-"
