"I need to tell you something, Emma. I just...I think I love you!" Luke whispered into my ear. We were alone in a park, and it was after our first date. We had went to dinner and were now stargazing. I felt the butterflies, and it was perfect. He was perfect.
"I love you, too," I replied and looked up at him in the moonlight. I touched his cheeks and he leaned in ever so slowly for a kiss. Our first kiss! The stars sparkled in the background just as his lips got closer. This was it......
BRRINNNNGG!
I shot up from my bed comforter. My eyes were blurry with sleep, but I looked around. The ring of my phone jingled through my room that wasn't even awake yet. What time was it? I grabbed my phone that was blaring way too loud. 11:30 A.M. Holy crap! Although it was Saturday, I had never slept this late. And Luke was calling me! I answered on the phone's final ring.
"Hello?" I had tried to sound awake, but my voice still sounded like a zombie with a cold.
"Emma, hey it's Luke. Did I wake you, Sleeping Beauty?"
"Nope, no not at all."
"Oh good, I just really wanted to talk to you!"
My heart smiled. "Oh yeah? Well, here I am." Images from my dream flashed through my head. Oh, it was so perfect. Why did I have to wake up before that kiss? But at least it was Luke. Oh how I loved dreaming about him....
"Emma? Are you there?" he pleaded.
Oh crap. Distracting thoughts.
"I didn't dream!" I blurted out. Gosh, Emma, way to go. So smooth.
"Okay?" he asked with a hint of laughter.
"I mean, uh, what I meant was...I'm here, yeah. Let's talk," I said, saving myself.
I put him on speakerphone and began to do my regular Saturday routine. I started my favorite Pandora station, Pop Love Songs, and started to tidy up my room.
"So what are you doing?" he asked me.
"Cleaning my room and listening to Pandora," I replied.
"Hey, I'm listening to Pandora, too!" he exclaimed.
"Really? That's so cool. I always listen to it. I love music."
"Me too, what kind do you like?"
"I kind of like everything. Right now I'm listening to my favorite station. The love song station." I smiled to myself, because I knew the reason why it was my favorite right now. I was in love, and the lyrics spoke to me because they described my feelings for Luke and my dreams for us.
"Want to know something? I never listened to that station, but I've started to listen to it recently."
My feelings alarm went off. Was that a sign? Did he listen to it because of me? My heart fluttered out of my chest and through my mind. It sent my thoughts flying like a flock of birds taking flight.
I was at a loss for words. "Oh, that is....amazing."
"A lot of the songs have reminded me of you."
Oh. My. Gosh. I screamed in my head. Instantly, my day was made. "Why me?" I inquired.
"Because you're you, Emma. You don't know you're beautiful and you don't care what people think of you. I just admire that about you."
"Thanks," I beamed.
"You're just like this other amazing girl in my grade. May Bowan."
Now I was confused. He gives off the hint that he likes me, then he mentions another amazing girl? What was this? Maybe he didn't like me after all. Mixed signals sent my thoughts to question everything I was thinking. I was dumb to think he liked me. Of course he wouldn't, after all, we just became friends.
