Chapter 10

The next morning, I recounted the events in my memory while I was still lazily remaining in my bed. The dinner, Luke, my beach kiss. My first kiss! The moment was too amazing to even think about. I can't believe that happened, I thought. I didn't even want to get out of bed. However, I knew that Katie would want to hear all the details, and I couldn't wait to share this excitement with her.

As if on cue, Katie bounced in my room. Although my mom was gone at work, Katie could still get in with the house key. My mom had decided that, since she was practically family, she could know where we hide our house key. Good thing, too, because I would have hated to get out of bed and answer the door without mentally preparing first.

She jumped up on my bed and plopped down right next to me.

"Emma! Look at you! You look like you had the night of your life. Like a princess in a fairytale! That cute smile of yours is forever glued to your face!"

Her comment made me smile even wider. "You're right. I did have a great night."

"DETAILS!" she pleaded.

As I told Katie the details of my date with Luke, making sure not to leave anything out, it was impossible for me to hide my pure bliss. Katie was ecstatic.

"Your very first kiss! I'm so happy for you, Em!" she rejoiced. "Are you guys like together now?"

"I don't know," I honestly answered. "I would hope so! But I really don't know what that meant to him..."

I started to wonder if he wanted to be more than friends. Isn't that what he meant by the kiss? I asked myself. I wasn't sure.

"Sometimes boys don't mean things as girls think they do," I pointed out. "Maybe he didn't mean anything by it. Maybe he does it with everyone, and I'm just another girl on his list."

Katie looked at me disapprovingly. "Really, Em? Luke Bradshaw? Do you honestly think he's like that? C'mon, you know him. He's not like his brother or the other players."

"You're right," I agreed. "But I have never been in a relationship. He has. I don't know how to do anything! How does it even get started?" My happiness was quickly being turned into stress and worry.

Katie made me sit up, and she put her arm around me. "Em, just talk to him. That is how relationships work. Communication. You guys are so close already. I thought you said things were easy with him. Am I right?"

I nodded. Luke was easy to talk to. More so than anyone I had ever met. That's one reason why I liked him and we connected so well.

"Okay, then just talk to him. It's not scary. It's not like last night was awkward. From the sounds of it, it was amazing for both of you. It's just something great added to your relationship. You should embrace it, not shy away from it."

Katie was amazing. "I'm so glad you are my best friend. I don't know what I would do without you."

Suddenly, my phone lit up. I reached for it on the nightstand and saw that it was from Luke.

Hey Em :) Last night was amazing!! I just wanted to say that being with you is the right decision. I'm ready if you are.

I squealed and showed the message to Katie.

"See? I told you. You're both ready and happy. Go for it!"

"What time is it?" I asked.

"Almost 11:30. You are lazy."

"We could get lunch! I'll ask Luke."

Lunch today? I texted him. I didn't have to wait long for his reply.
