"Kya!" Ms. Larough shouted from downstairs. Ms. Larough is the lady in charge of the orphanage and she's very mean and harsh.
Kya ran downstairs and bit her lip nervously. Ms. Larough was looking down at her with green menacing eyes and she did not look happy.
"W-what's wrong Ms. Larough?" Kya questioned in her soft voice.
"What's wrong is that these dishes aren't done! Clean them up you little brat!" Ms. Larough shoved Kya toward the sink and let out an agitated groan.
Kya frowned and got on the gloves to clean the dishes. She then began filling the basin with hot soapy water.
This is what life was always like for Kya. She never knew her parents and she's had to spend her whole life here in the orphanage with Ms. Larough. Kya is ten years old and she's got long brown wavy hair with hazel eyes. She never thought of herself as a pretty child.
"Kya!" A little boy came running up to Kya. This was Shawn. He's a six year old with red hair and light green eyes. He's got these cute little freckles on his cheeks as well.
"Hi Shawn..." Kya sighed and kept scrubbing a plate.
"Want some help?" Shawn asked and hopped up on a stool. He grabbed a rag and smiled at Kya.
"Sure, I could use all the help I can get." Kya smiled a little and handed Shawn a plate.
"Did Ms. Larough yell at you?" Shawn looked concerned. Kya just shrugged and kept her focus on the dirty dishes.
"I don't really want to talk about it..." Kya answered in a mumble.
"I'm sorry Kya." Shawn gave her a sad look and gave her a small hug.
"Attention! Everyone to the den now!" Ms. Larough shouted loudly. Kya took off the dish gloves and ran into the den with Shawn following behind.
In the den was a nice looking couple. The lady had her brown hair in a bun and she wore purple rimmed glasses. She seemed very proper. The man on the other hand wore a shirt with a picture of spongebob on it. His hair was black and wavy and he had the kindest smile. He seemed like a fun guy.
"Mr and Mrs Davis are looking to adopt." Ms. Larough said in her fake sweet voice. All the children's eyes lit up excitedly as Mr and Mrs Davis looked around at everyone. Their eyes landed on Kya and they slowly approached her.
"I like this one." The lady said and pointed behind Kya. Kya frowned and glanced behind to see Shawn standing there with a stunned look in his face.
"Oh baby he's perfect." Mr. Davis grinned and looked at Shawn happily. Kya's face fell and she held her head low as Shawn was chosen to be adopted.
"I'll never be adopted..." Kya sighed and when Shawn left with his new family she went back to doing the dirty dishes.
"You might as well get comfortable here Kya. You'll never be part of a family." Ms. Larough sneered at Kya and threw a dirty rag at her. A tear fell from Kya's cheek but she refused to cry completely. The last thing she wanted was to let Ms. Larough see her cry.
