The next day, Kya decided to sneak out of the orphanage. Not forever, but just for an hour or so.
She did this sometimes when she wanted to go exploring. Ms. Larough hasn't caught her sneaking out yet so really what's the harm?
Kya grabbed her backpack and silently let herself out through the front door. As soon as she made it outside she bolted toward the farmers market. There they sold all kinds of farm fresh products and all sorts of stuff.
Kya smiled at all the stands around her and casually strolled through. She just enjoyed this kind of atmosphere.
"Hello Kya." A nice older man that was running a vegetable stand called to her. Kya grinned when the man used her name and waved to him.
She was here a lot so it made sense that these people knew who she was.
Kya sat on a bench and chatted with some other people that were there for a little bit and then someone caught Kya's eye.
It was a young woman with long smooth brown hair but the way the sun reflected on her hair it made it look like there was a greenish tint to it. Kya found this odd.
The lady also wore a red coat and there was a pink and pretty flower in her hair. Kya seemed very intrigued by this woman so she decided to talk to her.
When Kya approached the lady she realized that the lady was pregnant. This also sparked her interest.
"You're gonna have a baby?" Kya asked the lady hastily. The lady looked surprised to see Kya but then laughed a little.
"Oh yes. It's going to be a little girl." The lady smiled and placed a hand on her stomach.
"When's it coming?" Kya smiled with curiosity.
"A month from now. Not too long now to wait." The lady answered happily.
"That's cool. My name is Kya by the way." Kya stuck her hand out to the lady.
"Melody." The lady replied with her name and shook Kya's hand, "So...where are your parents?" Melody glanced around and then back at Kya.
"I don't have any. I live at that orphanage down the street." Kya shrugged like it was no big deal. Melody looked concerned now and placed a hand on Kya's arm.
"Are you supposed to be out alone?" Melody looked very serious.
"Well no but I've done this before... I should actually probably start heading back there now." Kya nodded to herself.
"I'll walk you there." Melody smiled warmly and walked with Kya all the way to the orphanage.
