Everybody has a friend whose gone through a breakup. Whether petty or extremely dramatic and heartbreaking, you- the best friend- or you- the good friend who cares- now has to carefully find the right words to say to make them feel better. It's what friends are suppose to do. But sometimes you fall short. And the words you tried so carefully to pick out, come off in the totally opposite way it was intended. This can be one of the most disastrous mistakes a best friend could ever make. And unfortunately for Harry, he has accomplished just that. Not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times has his attempts to calm a friend ended in disaster. Here are the four disastrous don't's of helping a friend through a breakup:

Disaster #1 : Don't make a joke about it.

"Liam? Hey! what's wrong??" Harry noticed while walking by his weeping best friend who was sitting on the ground against a building's brick wall.

Harry hurried over to his side and sat down, swinging his book bag off and rubbing Liam's shoulder.

"What's up Liam, tell me!" He said worriedly.

"She dumped me." The teary eyed boy said monotonously as he looked straight ahead.

"Sophia? She dumped you??" Harry restated.

"We had a fight over the phone and I called her... I called her a bitch then one thing led to another and.." Liam continued in shaky breaths. "She told me to go fuck myself and that we were done. Just like that. She hung up the phone. And now I'm single and feeling like shit." Liam said, face growing redder by the second.

"Oh man.." Harry shook his head. "I'm sorry Liam." Harry put an arm around his best friend, pulling him close.

"I loved her man..." Liam started lean into Harry's lap and sob.

Harry's eyes goes wide and he doesn't know what to say. 'Shit.' He gets very panicky when people start to cry.

"Noo, no don't cry Liam, don't cry." He said, rubbing the broken boy's back. "If, um, if it'll make you feel better I can tell a joke? Uh, um... knock knock!" Harry desperately said.

Liam's sobbing stopped, and he was slowly picking his head up. He looked up at Harry until he was sitting upright, eye level to him. His red, tear soaked eyes were squinted in befuddlement.

"... What?" Liam asked, his face contorted in disgust.

"Knock-knock." Harry reiterated with a smile, eyebrows raised as if pushing Liam to play along.
There was a brief pause as they both stared at each other.

"My girlfriend just broke up with me and your trying to tell me a fucking knock-knock joke? You fuckin' serious?" Liam snapped.

"I don't know! You were crying and-"

"I can't believe this..." Liam said hysterically under his breath as Harry tried to explain himself.

"Liam I was only trying to help!"
