Chapter 22

I walked into the library and inhaled the smell of aged books; most hunter libraries consisted of ancient books that were passed down from our ancestors. The books themselves contained enormous amounts of important information so they were invaluable. Past the rows of bookshelves stocked full of leather bound books was a room full of archives, archives on paranormals. All the information we had on paranormals that were extremely dangerous and wanted by the hunter population could be found in an archive room in any hunter library.

I unlocked the room with the key I had gotten and turned on the lights, instantly I was confronted with the mess. The file cabinets were completely full and no one bothered to even close the drawers, boxes full of papers just sat on the ground haphazardly stacked and there was even some files scattered around randomly. This would take a while to sort through to find the information I was looking for.

I glanced at the closet file cabinet and saw that it was labelled R’s. The cabinets were in no order so I had to look at every cabinet for the letter D. Paranormals were filed alphabetically by first name. Over the years paranormals tended to change their last names but more often than not kept their first names.

I squeezed between two cabinets trying to get to the last one and saw that it was the one I was looking for. I randomly pulled one drawer and skimmed through the files only to discover Derek Bellamont’s file wasn’t there in the spot it should be. Where else could it be? I sighed and looked outside of the archives room to see if the librarian was there; she wasn’t, there was only a laminated sign telling people she was out to lunch.

Well I supposed now I would have to just find something to do until the librarian came back. I looked around the room and my gaze fell on a cabinet marked A’s. I scrambled up and soon was rifling though the second drawer pulling out a file with the name Alexandria scrawled in a messy writing on top. It hadn’t occurred to me until this moment to look at Alexandria’s file. I likely would have left it alone had it not been for Derek Bellamont’s misplaced file.

Alexandria’s file didn’t seem as old as the other ones but yet was much fuller. Unable to contain my curiosity much longer I opened the file and picked up the first sheet. It was a detailed sheet specifying hunters’ first meeting with her. The first time any hunter had come into contact with her was eight years ago. That would be when I was ten, as I thought that a peculiar thought flittered through my mind but when I tried to remember it just disappeared without a trace leaving me with an urge to know exactly what that was.

I looked back at the sheet of paper and saw Alexandria had killed seven hunters in a city near my hunter town. The hunters had only been trying to stop her from killing a guy in an alley. I flipped to the next page and saw a reason why she was banned from one of the countries she mentioned.

Alexandria was apparently banned from Switzerland because she was involved in a very big vampire scheme of which she was a major part. The vampires resented the hunter so they devised a plan to take over and kill all the vampires. I read on with a morbid fascination, I couldn’t believe Alexandria would actually do something of this magnitude, it made me want to reconsider how much I trusted her. The vampires plan was quite elaborate, it involved many traps and lures and a plan to takeover the hunter communities in that country. I couldn’t see how it didn’t work out but the hunters somehow prevailed and killed most vampires. That was likely when Alexandria fled the country.

I went though most of the files partially reading some and skipping a bunch altogether until I got to the end, Alexandria’s file curiously stopped three years ago. I closed the file, it seemed like Alexandria hadn’t existed before ten years ago and since three years ago. All trace of a vampire named Alexandria during those times was nonexistent. What could have happened to Alexandria to make her all of a sudden cause trouble and then just stop?
