Chapter 6

I impatiently waited outside the training center for the two guys to finish setting up the center for the demonstration and finally get around to putting the bows that were currently in their truck inside. I spotted Kayla coming towards me and waved.

“I’m here to watch your presentation,” she said with a smile that hinted that she knew something I didn’t. “In fact, mom, dad and some other people are coming too.” I looked at her in disbelief. This had to be a joke; there was no way that my parents would come just to watch an average presentation. Kayla waved at some of her friends that were sitting at a picnic table near where we were. Kayla looked back at me. “Well good luck on your presentation,” she said as a way of parting and took off towards her friends. I hadn’t been nervous before Kayla came over to tell me lots of people other than my family would be coming; now I was really nervous. I could potentially really embarrass my parents if I messed up.

I went inside to check on the progress that was happening in the training center and was surprised to see the room completely changed. All the equipment must have been moved into storage because it wasn’t here and in its place were many chairs. It looked like a lot of parents would be coming to see students present and demonstrate their weapons. Originally many students weren’t going to demonstrate but when Liz told the teacher that we were, the teacher made everyone demonstrate. Many of the students probably despised us for that. I located the bows in a corner of the room. They were laid carefully on the ground and a quiver of arrows was placed alongside them. The things we needed for our demonstration were all ready so I left to go find Liz.

After a while I found Liz at the dining hall and I sat down next to her with a sigh. Liz held out a bread roll to me. I shook my head certain I wasn’t going to be able to eat until this presentation was over. Liz looked at me and gave me a reassuring smile. Obviously she thought this presentation would be great because she didn’t look worried at all.

Liz looked at her watch and then angled it towards me. I glanced down at it and saw that we were going to be late for our next class, the class we would be doing the presentations in. Liz and I said our goodbyes to everyone at the table and ran to the training center hoping we wouldn’t get there too late. We used the back door and entered the building behind the bleachers where none of the parents and spectators could see us and tried to catch our breaths. Luckily we weren’t out of place; it seemed that behind the bleachers was where the students that had yet to do their presentations were waiting.

I looked around the bleachers and saw that the first group almost ready to start their presentation. The only thing was that there seemed to be a complication with their weapon that they were trying to fix. I turned my attention away from them to talk to Liz. Four groups had to present before Liz and I, excluding the people that were presenting at the moment. We would end up going last. We talked for a bit until Liz brought out cue cards and started practicing. As she did that I just thought about not messing up. I ran through the steps in my head and prayed I would be able to execute them flawlessly. Liz nudged me interrupting my train of thought.

“Come on, it is our turn to present,” she pointed out. I swallowed nervously and followed her out to the area where there was a projector set up. Liz went over to it and started up her presentation. Liz mostly talked while I just interjected some information every once in a while. Eventually it came time for me to demonstrate the bows. I wiped my damp hands on my jeans and pick up the first bow purposely choosing the easiest one. I was planning on demonstrating the bows from easiest to increasing difficult ending with the hardest one. I was especially nervous for the last one.
