Chapter 3
*Kate's POV*
THE ANDERSON ENTERPRISES
Kate was standing in front of the huge building of the Anderson Enterprises. She was nervous, very nervous and even angry. Angry at her head hunter, her best friend Trisha – "what the hell was that girl even thinking?!" she thought, Trisha knew everything about her, about him, about them and she still got her an interview in his company. Kate took out her cell phone and dialed her number – two rings later, a perky voice on the phone answered "Babe before you say something, I know you are angry but let me tell you that this is one hell of a job offer with lots of money and girl you need the money!"
"What the hell Trish! You know I can't work here – you know about him! How the fuck do you think I'm suppose to work in his company after everything that happened between us?" Kate was seething.
"Sweetie I know! I understand what you are saying but girl maybe you won't even see him. It is a very big and reputed company and this is just a simple Personal Assistant interview. I don't know for whom you are going to work for but I'm sure that it's not Richard Anderson. Why would that guy need an assistant? There are like 50 other officials for him! And babe it has been 5 years since everything – he probably has even forgotten about you with all the other bimbos hanging around him."
"Yeah I guess, but still, you could have at least given me a heads up."
"If I had already told you about the company, you wouldn't have stepped out of your goddamn house and I would myself have to drag you to the interview!"
"This girl knows me better than myself" Kate knew that it was useless fighting with her best friend, she was too intimidating. Letting out a deep sigh, she said, "Fine Trish I'll go to this interview only because you want me to and you are probably right it's just a simple Personal Assistant job after all. He won't even know that I exist in the company."
"Now that's like my good girl. I know that you'll rock this. Go in there and kill it! And trust me no matter what happens, remember that I'm always here for you and I love you. Okay? Now give it your best shot. Let me know what happens."
"Okay and I love you too Trish. Thanks for everything. I'll call you when it gets over."
"Sure. Call me and I wish you all the very best again. Bye!"
"Bye." Okay Trisha was right. She can do this. Finally letting out one last deep breathe, Kate walked into the building with her head held high and her heart hammering in her chest. Going up to the receptionist, she asked the red head girl – Amy – as it was written on her name tag, "Um excuse me. Hi, my name is Katherine Jones and I have an interview for the Personal Assistant job with Mr. Edward Collins."
"Oh yes, please go to the 34th floor of the building – the interview will be held there. As soon as the lift door opens, you'll see a long corridor. Just walk straight and when you reach the end of it, turn left and the first door you see is the place where the interview will be conducted."
"Thank you." Kate smiled politely. 34th floor – great, this is going to be awesome with her fear of heights. Pressing the lift's button, she waited for the doors to open. As soon as it did, she got in and pressed a shaky finger on the '34' button. Turning around, she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Smoothing out the sides of her formal trousers, she noticed that she had very minimal makeup on, just some eye liner and lipstick. Her cheeks looked pale so she pinched them a little to get a bit of color in them, otherwise she would have looked like a ghost. Her hair was done in a top – knot up do with some loose strands of hair falling all over her face. Quickly brushing those strands away, she thought about it one more time, "You are ready and you can do this," she whispered to herself.
The lift's door opened with a 'ding' sound as soon as Kate turned. Glancing at the long corridor, she slowly stepped out; there were some series of doors to her left. Walking straight ahead, her heels made a clacking sound on the marble floor. Reaching the end of the corridor, she turned left, and now was standing in front of an office with the name 'Mr. Edward Collins' written on the door. Knocking on the door with a racing heart, she heard a voice calling out "Come in," grabbing the cold metal handle on the door Kate pushed it opened and entered the office.
As soon as she went inside, Kate was greeted by a man, tall and what seemed by the grey streaks of hair with his dark ones – he was around his early 50s. He had a pair of dark brown eyes and there were some slight but prominent signs of aging on his face. Though he looked old and very professional, there was a warm smile on his lips. "Good morning. You must be Ms. Katherine Jones. Welcome to the Anderson Enterprises. My name is Edward Collins." He had a deep but gruff voice.
"Good morning Mr. Collins. It is a pleasure to meet you and thank you welcoming me to your company."Kate smiled slowly
"Now as you know this is a Personal Assistant interview. You'll be going through a series of three rounds for this, and if you crack all three rounds then you'll have a final round of selection. If you are selected then you're joining decision will be taken by the heads of the company. I'm sure Mrs. Trisha Peterson has told you everything about the salary packages?"
"Yes. Trish- I mean Mrs. Peterson has told me everything about that in detail."
"Okay Ms. Jones, so are you ready to start with the first round of your interview?"
"Yes Sir. I'm ready." Kate sounded confident. She closed her eyes for one last time, opening them quickly before she started to proceed with the interview which was going to change her life forever.
