A/N: hello wonderful reader!!

hey, to that lovely group of you that put this fanfiction in their reading list earlier, you may be reading this. so, here's my explanation:
i got tired of having this cringy work on my page, so i finally decided to start rewriting it during this writer's block state. therefore, there will be changes in the plot (and i've decided there will be some big ones)

well, this will take a little bit, but i am certainly determined to finish it in a timely manner!
so, i hope this is an improvement, and i hope you can enjoy, whether you happen to be new here or not~~

A young woman swam swiftly through ocean water, sun rays glistening above her on the rippling surface. Her hair swayed behind her quick pace, bubbles flowing from the tail she used to push against the water surrounding her. At her side, a dolphin clicking with joy, Plue. The two were racing to the barrier of two worlds, where every citizen of the ocean was forbidden to pass.

She was one of the thousands of merpeople that lived in the ocean, the salty sea of the Merineel. The strict king that ruled, her loving father, kept his citizens below the surface for decades with laws his daughter found so cruel and crippling. Her views clashed against not only his, but the many around her that shot her looks of disapproval. They wondered why such a beautiful woman such as Lucy Heartfilia would waste her mind wondering of the outside.

The barrier, the water line, was where no citizen should ever pass. It played as the line that divided the people of the ocean from the foolish hands of greedy Walkers.

Walkers were beings so similar to the mermaid this woman happened to be, however, they owned a figure with legs and feet, she learned. Each citizen in the Merineel despised of the population, for the Walkers had always been hunting them. In their eyes, all those inhabiting the ocean were jewels for their taking. They were desperate to get their hands on the treasure they hid, wondering how much the meat of a mermaid would sell for, if a tail would look attractive displayed on a wall of a home, on clothing and purses.

Lucy, under the influence of sudden frightening thoughts, gazed back to her long tail. The scales shimmered in the sun above, pink shades displayed beautifully in the crystal water. She would hate to see it seperated from the rest of her body, hung upon a Walker's wall; the thought haunted her.

She admired her tail for a few short moments more before averting her gaze ahead. However, her eyes weren't met with the gorgeous, deep blues of the ocean, but sand she was swimming head-on for. Lucy's eyes widened, fear beginning to swirl in her chest. Behind the woman, Plue clicked frantically.

She was swimming past the water line.

In seconds, she stopped, then began a quick swim backwards, the same fearful gaze frozen in her glimmering eyes. As she slowed, safely next to her comrade, she shivered. The thought of swimming further past the point of danger shook her every thought. She could've been seen by a Walker.

Plue swam in front of the mermaid, angrily clicking, scolding her for passing such a dangerous point.

But, instead of listening, Lucy stared to the shore. It stared back at her just the same, with curious, unknowing eyes.

The sand that floated through the water sparkled under the water, grouped to the shore she found a strange longing to feel. Shades of yellow and gold dotted the terrain softly, vibrant shells stuffed into the surface.

Lucy wanted to pass the water line. She wanted to explore the land of the Walkers. All she had to do was touch the dry land so near her, a task no mermaid had ever dared to complete.
