The Living Game

Recap of the story thus far, since it's kind of been a while. (This won't necessarily be in order, but it'll cover what you need to know.)

Meet Genesis Avery, a senior in high school. She lives alone, with her nephew, whom she has unofficially adopted, except for when her parents come home for a few days at a time — which isnt often. Her nephew, Jace is six years old.

Meet Alekzander Gray. Alekzander, Alek, for short, lives with his "mother", Eliza, and his brother, Jamie. Most of the time, however, he spends at his best friend Theodore Noot's house. Alekzander is a vampire that lives of blood and lust. He doesn't care about any one or anything, with the exception of Theo and Jamie.

Meet Theodore Noot, Theo for short. Theo is a vampire that also lives off blood and enjoys the lustfulness that comes along with it. Theo has a dark past and a lot of secrets, most of which he's not willing to share with anyone. That being said, he befriends Genesis and helps her when Alekzander won't. Theo also enrolls in high school and signs up for all the classes Genesis takes to keep her comapny.

Meet Kiera Kline. Kiera is a vampire with a dark and mysterious past. Struggling with her bloodlust and trying to control it so that she won't kill humans any longer, she befriends Genesis and offers to babysit Jace whenever she's needed.

Genesis writes a paper about Vampires and how they cannot be real, which Theo and Alekzander read. They decide it's a good idea to teach Genesis a lesson but it goes horribly wrong and Alekzander accidently turns Genesis into a vampire. During trying to teach Genesis a lesson, Genesis realizes that she has been dreaming about Alek, before she had even met him. Alek also realizes that he has been dreaming about her.

After Genesis has completed the transformation into a vampire, he takes her hunting but she refused to kill humans or animals. Genesis lets her health drain because of hunger until Alek offers to let her drink from him and convinces her to go hunting — for animals. He shows her how and then forms a "command" over her. A command lets him control her and links their minds so that he can hear her thoughts and see and hear what she does.

One day before school, Genesis' mother shows up, without her father. Her mother tells her and Jace that they should stay home from school and visit her, but they go to school anyway. Genesis' mother tells her she'll be around for a while.

Genesis and Alek both dream about each other once more, but neither one confesses it to each other, both thinking that they are the only ones having the dreams. Genesis learns about the differences between born vampires and turned vampires and about blood-mating. She also learns that it's possible, but very difficult, to feed off of humans without killing them.

Chapter Fourteen

When I got home that night, Kiera helped me put Jace's new moon on his ceiling light. I planning on putting his new nightlight where the old one was, but he said he didn't need it. I tucked it into a drawer, fully intending to put it in his room when he was asleep and tell him his other one had broken.

The moon was very cool. When the light was on, the moon dimmed it just a little but it also made funny shapes around the room, from the craters in the moon. Jace loved it. He asked if he could keep his ceiling light on at night but I told him I that would probably be a little bit too bright.

Before Kiera left, I walked her downstairs. "What are you doing tomorrow?" I asked.

School tomorrow was cancelled because the school is having some kind of teacher conferences and workshops. Kiera gave me a knowing look. "Need me to babysit?"

I shook my head, smiling apologetically. I used Kiera to babysit too much. "I was actually thinking maybe I could get someone else to watch Jace and we could go do something." It sounded like more of a question than a statement.
