"Theoooo." I whined, for the fifth time since we'd gotten into the car.

He shot me a look. "Will you shut up? I told Alek I would answer your questions, and I will, but if you keep bugging me to break his command, I'll be forced to leave you on the side of the road.

I glanced around us, completely willing to risk it, until I realized how far we had gotten from the school. I had let Theo drive my car, as it was easier than him giving me directions. After he dropped himself off, I would just drive back to my house.

I sighed. "Fine. First question, then..." I bit my lip. If I was going to get anything valuable out of it, I needed to start off slow. "How long have you been a vampire?"

He shrugged. "I don't keep track. It's a bit morbid and who cares, anyway? I'm not actually getting any older. I'm around 50 years older than Alek."

"And how old is Alekzander?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.

"Somewhere around one-hundred and seventy-five, maybe two-hundred, years."

I pursed my lips. "Are all vampires as pale as you and Alekzander?"

He chuckled and shook his head. "You should see Alek's brother, he's a tan as a male model."

"He has a brother?" How come I didn't know this? I don't really know anything about him, it's not like we're best friends. But he basically control my life — long distance now, too — so shouldn't I at least know he has a brother? He knows about my family. Well, technically he only knows about Jace and he still thinks he's my son, but it amounts to the same thing. It's totally unfair.

Not that I wanted to know anything about Alekzander. He was a jerk and I really just wanted to be rid of him.

Theo leveled an annoyed look at me. "If you're going to ask only questions about Alek, I'll just take you home to him."

I crossed my arms, not liking the way he had said, 'home to him'. He had better not be there at my house when I got home. That led me a question.

"Can vampires just walk into houses without needing permission?" I asked him, completely serious.

He guffawed. "Why would we need permission? Vampires don't suddenly stop being able to walk wherever they want just because they're vampires. The laws of physics still apply."

So I guess that means vampires can't fly. Dang.

"Why do I still need sleep?"

Theo chuckled. "You won't once your body completes the change. Even a few days after you feed, your body isn't used to being a vampire yet. You've slept more than half of your life, and your body will feel like it needs to do that in order to keep going. When you get tired, all you really need is blood, not sleep. The older you get the longer you can go between feeding. Although, you can still sleep if you chose to. You'll still dream when you sleep and whatnot."

"How long to vampires live?" I asked.

"Longer than humans. For every hundred years we age one human year."

I thought about that for a moment. "But you're at least eighteen!"

He laughed at my confused expression. "You don't really complete the process until you turn eighteen. Unless you're bitten, anyway."

"What do you mean?"

"When you're born a vampire, you have to go through the process of dying. Vampires are undead creatures, creatures of the night, whatever. We die and then our bodies are reborn. We're not fully vampires until then. Our bodies age normally, we eat normally. Born vampires will still eat human food after they've completed the change while turned vampires don't. They probably can but when they're changed they don't usually bother. All they want is blood for long enough that they lose their taste for everything else. A born vampire's diet remains mostly the same.
