Chapter 16

"Girl, we need to talk." Kurt came up as I walked into the restaurant a few days later. I was meeting Rachel there, after her performance, she said she had a surprise for me.

"Hey Kurt! What can I do for you?" I said brightly, thankful I had put on some concealer that day to mask the bags that were rapidly forming under my eyes.

"We're all glad that you're back. And we think that you're great for Rachel, trust me I shipped it from the beginning-"

"We're not together." I assure him but he brushed me away.

"Regardless. The problem is Santana." I cocked my head confused.

"But we only did it that one time, and what about Britt?" I asked, Kurt waggled his eyebrows at me.

"That's not what I mean, God sometimes your worse then a hormonal teenage boy!" I gave a sigh at his words.

"Get to the point Kurt."

"She told me you plan on leaving in three months." I shrugged.

"Actually a little less then two now." He glared.

"And what about Rachel?" He asked sharply and I sighed again.

"I have two months, let's live in the present Kurt." He shook his head.

"I don't like this." he assured me, angrily.

"It's the way it has to be."

"If you break her heart I'll never forgive you." He said and walked away. I turned around to see a bouncy bruennet behind me. She seemed oddly... subdued.

"Hey Rach." I gave her a quick awkward hug.

"Hey Luce!" She said with less of her enthusiasm then usual.

"What's wrong?" I asked immediately, and she chuckled bitterly.

"I need help with something, I could really use a friend." We hopped in a  car to the lower east side where she shared an apartment with Jessie. Or, used to share.

We arrived at the apartment and opened the door with a key she still had. I walked through her old house to the closet and she pulled out a suitcase. Jessie, arrived at the door and watched us sadly.

"What would I do without your smart mouth?
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out

And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright" Rachel glared at him, but I saw tears in her eyes as she thrusters clothes in her suitcase.

"Goodbye Jessie." He opened his mouth several times, and looked at the ring then back at her, tears were sparkling in his eyes.

"Rachel, you don't know how sorry I am about that. Please, please forgive me." She tried to turn around and leave but he grabbed her wrist. She jerked it away.

"No." Rachel said softly, I picked up her suitcase and I grabbed her hand and we walked out. As soon as I closed the door she let everything loose and cried into me for a good solid five minutes. I whispered quiet comfort words to her until she calmed down. I held her face in my hands.

"Rach, look at me." Brown eyes met hazel eyes, I mustered up a smile for her. "Do you want to stay with me tonight? Everything seems better in the morning." Rachel nodded slowly and sadly. We got back and I tucked her in, she grabbed my hand.

"Stay." She said so softly I could barely hear it. I sat in a chair next to the bed, and opened my mouth to sing the last bit of the song.
