Her passion for food to be known by all
She is endowed with a sweet and kind nature.
Families are aware that she is unable to keep anything from her father.
They fail to realize, though, that she is keeping her greatest life secret from everyone...
Adira sat in the hospital lobby, her shoulders trembling as quiet sobs escaped her. Her hands were tightly clasped together, as if in silent prayer, her eyes red from crying. At this moment, nothing else mattered—just one thing: her father's safety.
All the family members sat scattered around the waiting area, their faces etched with deep concern. The atmosphere was thick with anxiety and helplessness. Everyone was silently hoping for good news about Rudra’s condition.
A few moments later, Abeer walked into the lobby after speaking to the doctors. His face was grim, lips pressed into a tight line. As he approached the family, Adhya rushed to him, her voice trembling with worry.
“How is he?” she asked, eyes wide with fear.
“Can we see him now, Bhai?” Adira added softly, her voice barely audible.
Abeer turned sharply toward Adira, his eyes blazing with fury. His tone was cold and cutting as he spoke.
“You want to see him? Really?” he scoffed. “Why? So you can hurt him more than you already have?”
Adira blinked, stunned by the harshness of his words.
“Abeer, not now, beta…” Adhya stepped in, trying to calm her son, her voice soaked in sorrow.
But Abeer wasn’t done. He turned to face his mother, noticing the tears streaming down her face. His own voice shook now—not with fear, but with emotion and bitterness.
“You’re right, Mom. Maybe this isn’t the time. But I’ve learned something important today,” he said, his voice cracking as he continued. “We should never let charity into our homes. Because someday, that same charity will turn into our biggest mistake… and end up destroying us from within.”
“Abeer!” Gauri gasped, her voice rising in shock. “That’s enough!”
Dev also stepped forward, placing a hand on Abeer’s shoulder in an attempt to deescalate the situation. “Bhai, please... don’t say something you’ll regret later.”
But Abeer shook him off and looked him dead in the eyes.
“Don’t talk to me about regret, Dev. If there’s anyone regretting something right now, it’s Dad. He’s lying unconscious in that room, and all of this—everything—is because of the one person he loved more than his own life.”
His eyes turned back to Adira, and his next words pierced the air like a blade.
“He gave her his name—Adira Rudra Singh Shekhawat—and now, that name, that love, is what’s killing him.”
With that, Abeer stormed off, leaving a stunned silence behind him.
Adira stood frozen, unable to move or even breathe properly. Her legs felt like they would give out any moment. His words echoed in her mind, louder than the hospital chaos around her.
She had forgotten this truth a long time ago.
She wasn’t born into this family.
She was the charity case.
The adopted daughter.
The one Rudra had once lifted into his world with open arms, giving her a name, a home, and endless love—love that now seemed to be the cause of his suffering.
Tears flowed down her cheeks, but this time they weren’t just tears of fear.
They were tears of shame, of guilt, of a pain that ran too deep for words.
And somewhere in that pain was a quiet whisper of the question that now haunted her:
Was she really the reason he was lying in that hospital bed?
