Chapter 3: Lost

She sat Indian style on the floor, calmly staring at the wall in front of her. Painted to mask it's true self, the paint chipping, the wall broken.

It was funny to her how an inanimate object could have so much in common with her. They had both hid their true self at first, their mask was now being uncovered and shown to everyone, resulting in them breaking down.

She turned to face the wall her back was against and peeled off the chipped paint. "Show your true self, they'll judge, but
that's okay."

"Maybe I'm better off living here. I don't have to communicate with too many people." She shrugged, getting up and stumbling over to the door.

She reached over for the rusted brass knob, but stopped midway, keeping her hand in the air. She opened the door, shaking her head, before stepping out of the surprisingly unlocked door.

She looked around closely, looking for any signs of food to fulfill her needs before she attempted to make her 'great escape' and went over to the kitchen. "Hey, Brianna?" She gulped, hoping the woman wasn't annoyed at her from yesterday.

"Do you by any chance, have food?"

Brianna's head popped out from under the kitchen counter, giving the girl a small fright. She wasn't expecting Brianna to even be in the room, yet alone by the kitchen. "I do. I assumed you'd be hungry and come crawling here, so I made some bread and cheese."

She took the bread and cheese and sat on the stool, gobbling the food up greedily as if she hadn't tasted the savory goodness of food in a long time.

After she finished eating, she started at Brianna, waiting for her to leave the room so she could examine her surroundings carefully and figure out how to leave.

She made a dash for one of the doors, tripping over the antique rug. Her patience had run thin, leading her to her ultimate doom. Failure.

"Room. Now. I'll be bringing you food for now on." Brianna demanded, walking over and helping the girl up from the floor.

The girl screamed. "Don't touch me! Get away from me, you don't understand!" She ran back into the room, slamming it shut and curling herself up in the corner, crying until she had no tears left.

She sat up and brought her knees to her chest, sighing. She had no idea what anything was anymore. Not knowing where she was, why they brought her specifically here, or if they would ever let her leave made her anxious. She could barely last another week here.

"I feel like I'm lost and I don't like this feeling..."
