Brown eyes fluttered open, only to squeeze shut again as sunlight streamed through the open window, too bright against her still-sensitive vision.

It was quiet, but not in a comforting way.

Something was off, Aelia can feel it in her bones.

She slowly opened her eyes again; nothing seems out of place.

She tried to lift her arm to wipe her eyes, but couldn't. Something was holding her down, So she looked.

Brown locks.

From the person whose head lays on the mattress beside Aelia and a hand tightly holding hers in place.

That scent, She knew that scent.

"Azriel?" She called softly.

The woman shifted slightly, lifting her head. Brown familiar eyes stared back at Aelia as she let go of her hands.

"Hey," the older woman answered, voice soft and calm. "How are you feeling?"

Aelia stared at her confused.

"What's happening? Why are you here?" She asked, confusion swarming in her brown-tired-eyes.

"You don't remember?" Azriel asked.

"Remember what?"

Before Azriel could respond, the door burst open and Kali stepped inside, her eyes immediately landing on Aelia.

"You're awake," she said, relief evident in her voice. "How are you feeling?"

"I... What's happening?" Aelia asked again, rubbing at her temple, her head pounding slightly.

Azriel looked at Kali, then stood. "Last night..." she began, paused, then looked at Kali again, "I think you should tell her."

Kali raised an eyebrow, "Why me?

Azriel didn't answer immediately. She glanced down at Aelia, the corner of her mouth twitching like she wanted to say something but thought better of it.

"Because you were here for most of it," she said finally. "And you're someone she trusts."

That caught Kali off guard.

Aelia sat up slowly. Despite the mild headache, she felt okay. More than okay, actually. There was something stronger pulsing within her—something in her aura that hadn't been there yesterday.

"You're the one who saved her, it's best if you tell her yourself." Kali protested still hanging by the doorway of their room.

"You—" Azriel started to protest, but Aelia cut her off.

"Can you both just freaking tell me already?" she snapped, glaring at them. Both girls froze, eyes wide.

Kali exhaled, then crossed the room and sat at the edge of the half-burnt mattress, near Aelia's legs. "Something happened last night," she said carefully. "You were burning up. Literally."

Aelia blinked. "Burning?"

"You were already sleeping, but then I heard you whimpering, like you were in pain or something." Kali tried to explain as best she could. "I tried to wake you up, but..." She trailed off

"but?" Aelia encouraged. Only now noticing the slightly burnt mattress she's laying at.

"When I tried to shake you awake, I—" Kali held up her hand showing it to Aelia. Faint burns marred her skin.

"Oh my god." Aelia gasped. "I burned you?"

"Well, technically, I burned myself trying to touch you," Kali said with a weak chuckle.
