We stood in the middle of the St Florence's Square, a block in the middle of the town that was essentially, a park. The water fountain beside us splashed refreshing droplets of water on my skin as we waited under the midday sun. I checked my wristwatch, 12:03pm.
"Let's just start without Tyler?" I suggested, who was three minutes late on the dot.
We had planned to start our journey in the park, and now we all stood in a circle beside the fountain. All seven of us- excluding Tyler- Alice, Owen, Kaleb, Faith, Marcus and myself. Tyler and I had decided we would do our travelling with a back pack each to make life simple, but I was a girl and I now carried a large suitcase and a medium sized back pack and a purse. Oh well, at least I looked good with a new sports outfit and vans. Kaitlyn had promised to send us all a text on 12:15 exactly us to the hint of our first destination and inclusions of the other seven rules such as cars and plane tickets. There were also five secrets around somewhere. I didn't know how she planned to share them but I hoped it had nothing to do with me. We had also all decided to do daily updates, or diary entries, to keep up to track on locations and events and report them back to Kaitlyn. I was slightly suspicious of that.
"What's happening?" A chilled looking Tyler joined our circle, sure enough he had only a backpack.
"You're late." I said, everyone else seemed to be waiting for the text.
"And you're slightly over the limit we agreed on." He looked me up and down and eyed off my suitcase and purse.
"I'm a girl." I glared. "I have needs."
"You're only need is me baby cakes." That nick name was starting to annoy me.
"Okay. Have your love romance some where else?" Kaleb gave us a polite nod, we both quieted down at that. "Now that we are all officially here, thankyou Tyler, we can do checks. I.D?"
There was a mumble of responses that went around.
"How about I just go through the list. If you forgot something, you need to make your own time to get it." Everyone nodded in unity.
Kaleb grabbed a piece of paper out of his back pocket and unfolded it. Tyler was standing across from me, looking up at the sky. A knot of butterflies sat in my stomach. To say I was nervous would most likely be an understatement. Kaleb began reading his list. If I said Tyler wasn't attractive, I would be lying. I had now also agreed to his silly game- how would that go? All I had to do was bail him out five times and not make a move on him- that would be easy? Right? He was the a-holes of all a-holes. In a flash, he caught me staring at him and gave me a suggestive wink. I immediately focused back on Kaleb who was now folding his list back up.
""Everyone good?" I hadn't been listening but I mumbled a yes anyway and looked back at my watch. 12:11. The pressure was on now. Tyler moved to stand next to me. I suddenly felt really out of place, Faith and Alice both had as much baggage as myself but so did their teammates. Tyler moved so freely I nearly felt suffocated by my bags.
"I know I'm not a grocery item but I can tell when you're checking me out." He whispered in my ear.
The lamest pick up line in history made me blush scarlet red.
"I was so not!"
"Yeah what ever princess. You ready for this?" I nodded which earned a smile from him. After a moment of silence I realised he wasn't planning to continue talking to me and I turned away looking for Faith. "Good luck" I mouthed to her across the circle- that wasn't betrayal, right? "You too princess." She mouthed back, clearly she had been eves dropping.
Surely the text should have come now. I noticed Marcus was standing with Owen just outside the circle and thought I would introduce myself to the enemy.
