As I sauntered out of my den, Hawk, a pup slammed right into my side. "Dawn! I'm so sorry!" He yelped. He looked so shocked, I felt bad the pups were scared since I only had one eye. They would sometimes even avoid me. He quickly got up as I started talking.
"Nothing to be sorry about," I said smiling. He smiled back weakly and looked happier when I said, "You could use that strength!" Trying to praise him. His mother then paced over and grabbed Hawk from the scruff to carry him to the other pups. She nodded once, signaling 'sorry'. "It's fine moon." I said laughing.
I continued to walk until Soot came over. "Should I gather some wolves to hunt?" He asked, still looking half asleep. How could he hunt like this!
"Yes, as long as you stay in the boundaries. Okay, Soot?" I said, reminding him of an earlier hunt. "And while you're at it, actually wake up too." I went over and gave him a nudge.
"Okay, okay..." Soot said, rolling his eyes, then being interrupted by a yawn. After searching for wolves who were willing to hunt with him, he and three other wolves headed out. Then my fighting guide, Cinder, came over.
"Do you need me to send out wolves to patrol the borders and make sure the packs are staying on their own territories?" He said, looking at me in a worried way. His grey pelt moving in the slight breeze. I closed my eye and thought for a few seconds before I started to talk.
"Actually, I'll go out today, I haven't been doing much of anything lately." I mumbled quietly, opening my eye. I started to trot out of the camp, but it soon turned to a run; stretching my muscles to be able to run smoother through the tree-filled area. As I was exiting the camp, I heard Cinder call after me.
"I'm going to get a few more wolves to come, better safe than sorry. And don't over do it, you'll get tired!" Eventually, Cinder caught up to me, with Chestnut and Walnut, two brothers, on his tail. I slowed down, walking. We were walking along our territorial border, me leading the group. I quickly flicked my tail to stop them, and motioned with my head to look farther up.
We saw four wolves, quickly and quietly walking into our area. We inched closer, sneaking up on them, knowing the woodland better than them. Suddenly, I heard a crack. Walnut had accidentally stepped on a branch, bringing the rivals' attention to us. Before I knew it, we were all over each other, fighting.
A large and muscular flame-colored wolf walked to me, his sun-colored eyes squinting at me. I returned the look, scowling. We attacked at the exact same time, both going for the shoulder. I felt his jagged teeth tear my skin, the pain unbearable. I went for his leg while he tried to get on my back. He ended up streaming over me as I glided under him, pushing his stomach with my hind legs. After fighting longer, I finally managed to pin him down. I noticed my wolves had also brought down their opponents, standing over them. There was utter silence except for a growl escalating from a blonde wolf that stopped after Cinder pressed his paw on her neck.
"You're lucky." I said, breaking the silence that was held. I smirked then continued harshly. "If I see anymore wolves from your pack here or anywhere in Aurora territory, I will make sure that they are all dead!" I had worried them, they had a glint of terror in their eyes, aside from annoyance. Except the flame-colored wolf. Pathetic. I signaled my wolves to step down and let them return to their territory.
I stood there unmoving until Walnut came and nudged me. I flashed my head to look at him, then I turned away and started to walk back. They didn't follow me until I turned and said, "Are we going to walk back?" I waited for them to catch up then moved on.
"Hey Dawn?" Chestnut called, getting my attention. "You were actually pretty intimidating back there." He told me. "It was kinda scary actually." He said softly, like a whisper.
