The End of Pretence

The wedding glow hadn't faded yet.

Fresh marigold petals still clung to the corners of the house, and laughter echoed faintly in the air from the day's celebration. Aditi and Arjun's wedding had gone off flawlessly — a perfect union, a perfect evening. The guests had only just left, their cars trailing away into the starry night, leaving behind just the family, lost in the soft afterglow of rituals, tired smiles, and lingering happiness.

But peace is a fragile thing — and in this house, it was a lie.

A loud crash suddenly shattered the silence.

The sound rang through the corridors like a scream, sharp and final. Everyone flinched. Plates in the kitchen clinked against each other with the vibration. Feet shuffled quickly toward the source of the noise — the dining area.

The glistening shards of glass lay scattered across the floor, water pooling beneath them like tears. But it wasn't the broken glass that stopped everyone in their tracks.

It was Siya.

Standing at the center of the chaos, her chest heaving, eyes blazing, her body trembling with emotion. And opposite her, calm yet shattered, stood Avyansh — his gaze locked on her, unmoving.

"You made my life miserable!" Siya screamed, her voice cracking with months of held-back pain. "You broke me into pieces and just... watched!"

Everyone froze.

Veer instinctively stepped forward, but Aryaa held his wrist. "Let them speak." she murmured, tone grave.

Avyansh didn't flinch. He simply blinked, jaw tight, voice soft. "Siya... let's sit. We can talk... please. You'll hurt yourself like this."

His concern was real — it always was, buried beneath his icy silences and arrogance — but right now, it only fuelled Siya's rage.

"Don't you dare act like you care!" she barked, pointing a trembling finger at him. "Where was this concern when you ignored me for months? When you treated me like I was a burden you were forced to carry?"

Her voice broke.

Her chest rose and fell with the weight of every word she had swallowed during the past few months.

"I kept quiet for Aditi... for her wedding. I didn't want to ruin her day. But I'm done now. I can't live like this anymore."

The room was silent.

The silence wasn't peace — it was the silence before a thunderstorm.

"I used to think-" she continued, her voice quieter but more lethal "-that maybe, just maybe, if I stayed a little longer, if I tried a little harder, you'd change. That you'd look at me like a wife, like a partner, like someone you once chose. But you never did."

Avyansh finally stepped forward, his brows knit "Siya—"

She cut him off "No. Don't say anything. You've already said enough over these past months. Every time you avoided looking at me. Every night you came home and didn't say a word. Every moment you made me feel invisible — that was you speaking."

A sob escaped her lips, and she clutched her saree near her chest as if shielding herself from her own pain.

"I'm suffocating in this marriage, Avyansh. I can't even recognize myself anymore. I'm not the girl who married you... and you're not the man I thought you were."

Tears had welled up in Aditi's eyes. Arjun placed a hand gently on her shoulder. Nobody knew what to say. Not Veer, not the elders, not the cousins who peeked in horror from the hallway.
