Olivia's POV
As I opened the door to the diner I felt the heat blast the skin on my face, and boy did it feel good. My eyes searched the diner for the fiery red hair of my dear friend Ed.
"Olivia, over here!" Ed exclaimed waving me over to him in a booth.
"How have you been, Ed?" I asked as I removed my coat before sitting down.
"Never been better! And I have a feeling neither have you. I heard you clothing line helped Krystal Designs profits significantly." Ed said as he rolled up the sleeves of his maroon jumper.
"Yeah, actually on Monday I'm flying to London to make sure some more of my designs are ready to be put together." I explained.
"Aw perfect then you will be in the same town as my buddy." Ed said.
"What?" I asked confused by what exactly he was trying to get at. Me being in the same town as "his buddy" has nothing to do with me.
"Well you remember the guy I was tell you ab...." Before Ed could finish our waitress came over asking for our orders.
Ed gets a burger and I decide on pancakes.
"Pancakes for dinner....what a risk." Ed teases
"Well you know me. Always one to live in the dangerous side of life." I said giggling. "Actually I think eating breakfast food for dinner is the only law I'll ever break." I continue.
"I believe it. Anyway, back to what I was saying originally. You remember me mentioning a guy I know who lives in London who would be perfect for you?" Ed asked
And then it all made sense to me. Ed wants to set me up with "his buddy" while I'm in London. But am I ready to date? I mean yes I get lonely, but will someone else be able to put up with my crazy schedule? Or with how often I travel? And will I want to prioritize them over my blossoming career? No, I can't. I won't.
Finally my time has come to fulfill my dreams of being a designer and I won't let anyone or anything get in my way of that. So what if I get lonely every once and a while. I'll just adopt a cat....wait I don't like cats.....maybe a dog....but they are so high maintenance. Gold fish! Yes I will get a cold fish! Nice and easy. That will stop me from getting lonely, right?
"No, Ed. I see where you are going with this and I don't appreciate your sneaky was of trying to set me up." I said
"I'm not being sneaky! And don't act like you don't get lonely! I mean, what would you be doing tonight if I hadn't asked you to come out and have dinner with me?" Ed questioned
"I would have probably just stayed in and watched the intense interview Charlotte Richards was giving, that's what. And look maybe I do get lonely every once and a while, but you know what? I'm going to get a goldfish. Yeah, that's right and I just decided that! So that loneliness probably should just take care of its self." I mumbled the last part because hearing the whole idea out loud made me realize just how stubborn I was being. A goldfish. I can't believe it. What a dumb idea.....
Ed just sat there staring at me with a slight smirk on his face. I knew he could tell I was regretting the grand proclamation I had just made in this public place.
Our waitress came over with our food and Ed began to speak again "Olivia, you can do whatever you want, but trust me this guy is perfect for you. You two are soul mates, I swear! He is funny, kind, and easy on the eyes. He would treat you like a queen. Come on just give him a chance. For me." Ed was practically begging, giving me his best puppy dog eyes.
"Ok, fine." I said with a sigh
"Great! I will set everything up and let you know where to be and when to be there." Ed said excitedly
"So what's this guy's name?" I asked genuinely intrigued by who this guy may be.
"That is top secret. I can't tell you." Ed sad chuckling slightly.
"Why? What's wrong with you? Why can't you be normal and juts give me a first name at least?" I questioned
"How about this, since you don't know his name I won't tell him yours, ok?" Ed said
"Ok, fine. But that still doesn't help present day Olivia. That doesn't even help future Olivia." I said
"Don't worry. It will...."
