The cabin creaked as the wind howled outside, the sound of the trees swaying making the place feel even more tucked away from the world. Inside, though, it was warm. Cozy, even, with blankets and pillows thrown everywhere and the soft chatter of my friends filling the space.
Lucinda and Kim bickered near the TV, trying to pick the next movie. It was... nice, considering everything that had happened lately. We all needed this break.
I tucked my knees up to my chest, curling into the corner of the couch as the fire crackled softly nearby. My eyes drifted across the room—and landed right on him.
Aaron sat by the window, arms crossed over his broad chest, his expression unreadable like always. But when he caught me staring, something shifted. His dark eyes softened, the slightest tilt of his head wordlessly inviting me over.
I barely moved before someone dropped down next to me, his arm draping along the back of the couch, his fingers brushing my shoulder.
"Comfy enough, Y/N?" Garroth asked, flashing that easygoing smile that always made my stomach flutter. But his blue eyes weren't entirely focused on me—they flicked toward Aaron, sharp for just a second.
I cleared my throat, trying to play it cool. "Uh—yeah. I'm good."
Except... I wasn't. Not with the way my pulse jumped whenever either of them got too close. And lately? That was happening a lot.
Lucinda finally pressed play on some cheesy horror movie with the worst special effects imaginable, and the room dimmed, everyone settling into blankets and pillows.
I felt Aaron move before I saw him. My heart did this ridiculous flip as he walked over, saying nothing as he claimed the open space on my other side. He sat close, his knee brushing mine—just enough to set my skin on fire.
Garroth noticed. Of course he did.
"So, Y/N..." Garroth leaned in, his voice dropping just enough to make my stomach twist, "Scared of horror movies? You can totally cling to me if you need to." His grin was playful, but his eyes... they flicked toward Aaron like a silent challenge.
I barely had time to react before Aaron's voice rumbled low beside me, his words sending a chill down my spine. "They won't need to. I've got her."
The air shifted. My pulse hammered as they stared each other down over me, heat radiating from both sides like I was caught between two storms.
"Guys..." I whispered, forcing a shaky laugh to break the tension, "It's just a movie."
But it wasn't just a movie. Not with Garroth's arm lingering behind me, his shoulder brushing mine. Not with Aaron's hand slipping beneath the blanket, fingers finding mine, holding tight.
The movie played, the sound of fake screams and dramatic music filling the room. But I barely noticed. Not with both of them pressed close, not with the weight of their stares, both silently fighting for the same thing.
Me.
And honestly? I wasn't sure I wanted to pick a side.
