"Hello Miss Fabrell! Ready for the ride?" the man sitting in the front of the helicopter says cheerfully. I nod and hop in, followed by my Australian Shepard that I named Ptero due to my work conditions. I'll get to that later though...
"Oh, you brought your dog!" he flips a switch on the control panel and pulls up on the steering rod. The helicopter lifts up off the landing pad and flies away from Costa Rica.
We land a few hours later on the helicopter pad. I leap out, backpack flopping around as I secure my hat on my head.
Ptery makes a beeline for the bushes that surround the building we're on; it's sort of dug halfway in the ground, peaking out with huge windows.
I hear squealing and am greeted by a girl about my age and another boy that looks to be a year older.
"So I hear you're the famous Ocean Fabrell, pterodactyl researcher and granddaughter of the legends Alan and Ellie Grant!" the girl talks super speedy.
"Uh yea. And you are..." I trail off, glancing at the boy. He's messing around with Ptero, playing with my dog as he smiles.
"Oh I'm Anessa Williamson, I work with the little herbivores!" she says excitedly.
"Oh my turn?" the boy looks up after Anessa nudges him and he leaves Ptero to lick his hand.
"My name is Mitchell Grady. I, uhh train the raptors here." he smiles at me. I return it and call over Ptero, who is wagging his tail at Mitchell.
"Nice to meet you guys. Um, where exactly should I go?" I ask embarrassingly, my cheeks flushing.
"To Mitchell's parents of course! I hear they've been dying to get you on the island for ages!" Anessa bubbles.
"Come on, I'll show you around." Mitchell grins as I blush once agin and Anessa smiles in the background.
We wander around past the lab and finally into the control room, where Mitchell's parents wait.
"Is this the one and only Ocean Fabrell?" Mitchell's father questions happily.
"Mr. Grady, it's an honor to finally meet you! I've heard so much about your work and I've read all your research on the raptors! It's really quite impressive!" I exclaim joyfully as he smiles and shakes my hand.
"Please, call me Owen! You're officially part of the Jurassic World team, might as well not be formal. That's for those random interns..." he chuckles at the last part and his wife rolls her eyes.
"I'm Claire Grady, Mr. Raptor Man's wife here," she pats his shoulder. "We had some state-of-the-art builders construct your new house on the island while I personally created the designs. I hope you like it!" she continues.
"Oh my gosh I can't believe Im really here! It took a lot of convincing from both my parents and grandparents to even step foot on the helicopter. Thank you so much for allowing me!" I lift my eyes up and see holographic dinosaurs holding resident on the ceiling.
"We'll give you a day of rest and then we'll start you on a new batch of Pterodactyls! You've met our son, Mitchell, I assume?" Claire continues. I nod, giving a quick glance at Mitchell and he smiles softly at me.
"Good, he'll be showing you to your cabin!" Owen waves his hand as Mitchell leads me away, holding back Anessa as she tries to follow.
We walk out of the building side by side and Mitchell strikes up a conversation. He gives Ptero a pat on the head before speaking.
"So... How are Pterodactyls?" he asks, unsure of what to say. I smirk while keeping my eyes on the ground.
"Oh you know, flappy. I assume your raptors are umm, snappy?" he laughs when I suggest the thought.
"You're funny. I like that." Mitchell states and guides me to a dirt path through the trees.
After a while of walking in silence, we arrive at my new home for the next who knows how long.
"Welcome home." Mitchell whispers, pulling out a key to open the oak wood door for me.
I step in and look around in awe at how beautiful it is. A metal sculpture of pterodactyls mid flight hangs from the ceiling, glinting in the afternoon sun. A wall of floor to ceiling windows are set to the right of the doorway with a glass door leading out to a balcony.
Staring out the perfectly cleaned window panes, I get a full view of the dazzling sunset over Jurassic World. I am entirely speechless.
A small kitchen is set off to the side and the little room where the wall o' windows are is a living room with a couch. A hallway is set next to the kitchen, leading to one bedroom and a bathroom. The sheer beauty of it even gets Mitchell wide eyed.
"Well. Never expected my mother to be this talented." Mitchell sets the key on the granite countertop, along with another one for my company jeep.
"Thanks for helping me." I thank him quietly as he also leaves behind my badge, a pass, and a radio. Ptero barks a farewell and Mitchell laughs.
"Anytime. My house is just down the road by the way if you ever need anything. You'll notice it's attached to my parents 'mansion'." Mitchell smiles and almost trips out the door, waving a goodbye before leaving somewhat reluctantly.
I sat on my satin purple bed, thinking about Mitchell and what this would mean for my life. I mostly thought about Mitchell. I don't know what to do about him, he seems... Decent. Yea, he's really nice and funny, looks smart too but I couldn't help but wonder how he would end up affecting me. Hopefully positively. And then Anessa Williamson. I can already tell we'll be best friends. This should be quite an experience!
