The second Kaylee flipped the light switch on and the kitchen lit up, she nearly jumped out of her skin at the sound of your voice.

"You're late."

She ran her fingers through her hair and let out a heavy sigh.

She knew she was late but it had been out of her hands and she clearly wasn't in the mood to get the third degree.

"I'm sorry, alright? I'll make it up to you. For now, I just want to go to bed."

"Wait a second." You scoffed and watched her turn around to look at you again. "Don't you see what I did tonight?"

She saw the food all across the table, so many favorites that she couldn't ever get enough of.

She also noticed the bouquet of flowers along with the petals across the floor.

"What's all this?"

"Our anniversary dinner, Kaylee. Which I worked hard to prepare for us to celebrate. I bought flowers, I made a playlist full of love songs that I had played for two straight hours, and I spent hours cooking. You promised you'd be home early."

"I know, I know. I got caught up at work. I'm sorry. It looks good. I'll eat it tomorrow."

"You can't because it's been sitting out for hours! It's no good anymore." You said and raised your voice slightly.

"I said I was sorry. What more do you want from me?"

"For you to mean it. That would be nice." You spoke as you folded your arms over your chest. "How about for you to acknowledge everything I did? How about a thank you? How about you wanting to make it up to me? Or a happy anniversary?"

She rubbed her temples and shook her head at you.

"I don't feel like dealing with all of this. I'll sleep on the couch tonight since you're so angry with me. Goodnight."

You couldn't believe what you were hearing.

Or, more upsettingly, what you weren't hearing which was any sign of appreciation and gratitude or a simple gesture showing you that she cared about your anniversary.

It's your third anniversary today and it felt like she couldn't even care less and that was extremely infuriating for you.

"Kaylee Marie Kaneshiro!"

The sound of her full name leaving your lips took her by surprise and sent a chill down her spine.

She spun around to look at you again and this time, she looked intimidated and nervous.

"Yes, sweet girl?"

"Don't call me that. I'm not in the mood." You said, rolling your eyes. "It's our third anniversary. Don't you even care at all? About our time together? About me? About us?"

She frowned and started to walk over to you.

"Of course I do."

"I understand you're tired and had a long day but I went through all of this to make our anniversary special and you haven't even said anything about it. You wouldn't even text or call to tell me you were going to be late. It hurt, Kaylee."

She let out a sad sigh and made her way over to you before wrapping you in her warm embrace.

"I'm so sorry. I know I said that already but I truly mean it. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to disappoint you or make you feel like I don't care about you or us. You're my whole world. These three years together have been the happiest of my life. I love you and appreciate you so very much."

You started to smile a little.

"I will make this up to you. I'm sorry I didn't call or text. I guess it just didn't cross my mind and I truly am so sorry. I'll make things right, okay? Tomorrow, I'll make it up to you. Whatever you want to do, we'll do. I promise you."

"Okay."

"Please forgive me." She pouted.

"Fine. I guess it is extremely hard to stay mad at you."

She smiled and pulled you in for a quick kiss.

"Do me a favor?"

"What?" You wondered.

"Please never call me by my full name ever again. That was scary."

You laughed and put your arms around her.

"It got you to listen though, didn't it?"

She shook her head with a laugh.

"That's very true. I heard you loud and clear after that scare."

You kissed her again, laughing against her sweet lips while keeping in mind that this is how you'd get her attention in the future too, if you ever needed it.
