Alex: Aye wanna come over and watch a movie? I'm bored.
My typing was lazy as I texted Emily. Sighing, I laid my phone on my stomach and stared up at my feet that were propped on the wall, awaiting her reply. Watching a movie with Emily usually meant putting a movie in as background noise while we sat on our phones eating Chinese food that Emily had brought over, occasionally showing each other things we have found on the internet.
Emily: Orange chicken and rice?
I smiled at how well my best friend knew me, typing a quick reply.
Alex: Thanks m8, don't text and drive
I set my phone on my stomach once again and turned my gaze back to my TV, where an old episode of Glee was playing. Rory was reading a story from his little book about the true meaning of Christmas, even though he was supposed to be reading Frosty the Snowman. "Oh, Damian McGinty," I sigh happily. "I love you."
A half hour later I was halfway through another episode of Glee, a plate of food from Panda Express in my lap, and my best friend beside me. "Hey, can you put in The Maze Runner?" she asks, a noodle hanging from her mouth.
I roll my eyes at her. "So you can ogle at Dylan O'Brien while you take a break from scrolling through Tumblr?" I crack a smile.
"Yeah, basically," she replies, sitting back against my wall.
I laugh and follow her request, putting on the movie of her choice. I sat next to her and pulled up Facebook on my phone, ready to scroll through my various social media accounts for a good chunk of the movie. "You know, the first time I watched this was with my mom," I say. "I can't remember what had just happened exactly, but that guy with the eyebrows had done something, and she said 'Oh, take your eyebrows and go to bed'. I have never laughed so hard in my life."
"That sounds like something your mom would say." Emily laughs with me, looking up from her phone to meet my eyes.
I grin at her and return my attention to Facebook, seeing what everyone was up to. I clicked on a 5SOS fan group I was in and scrolled through there for a while before something grabbed my attention.
It was a post about someone called Mr. X. I furrow my eyebrows, reading the post. Apparently this person, Mr. X., had made a bunch of predictions that had come true. Zerrie breaking up, Zayn leaving the band, a bunch of stuff like that. And now he's saying that Harry Styles will die.
"Hey, Emily, do you know anything about Mr. X.?" I ask, tilting my phone so she can see the screen.
"Who?" Emily looks puzzled, moving closer to me so she can read the status. "Alex, I wouldn't be too bothered by this. Do you know how much security they have? Nothing is going to happen to Harry. Now eat your chicken and watch Dylan."
I look at her and then back down at my phone. Something doesn't feel right about this, but I take her word for it, taking a bite of my Chinese food and watching Dylan run around in the maze.
*~*~*
I woke up to the credits of The Perks of Being a Wallflower playing on my TV. Emily was sleeping next to me on her stomach, her phone hanging loosely in her hand. Checking my phone, I saw that it was two-o-clock in the morning.
I pulled Emily's phone from her hand and typed a quick message to her parents saying she fell asleep here and that she'll be home sometime tomorrow before plugging her phone in the charger she left at my house. I turned off the TV and then went downstairs to my kitchen to get a glass of water. I was just about to go back up to my room when something caught my eye.
My mom had fallen asleep on the couch with the TV muted, which was normal. On the TV, though, was a picture of Harry Styles, his face looking confused, and terrified. I rush to the TV, unmuting it, and sit wide-eyed, trying to figure out what is going on.
"Sources stationed at tonight's concert report that about halfway through the concert, One Direction's music had been cut off and a disguised voice had taken over the speakers, saying that it was time for one of the members of the boyband, Harry Styles, to die. Silence ensued for about ten seconds before a gunshot rang out through the stadium, missing Harry's head by a hair. The boys fled the stage as security urged the fans in the audience to evacuate the arena. Police are still investigating the scene. Here is a clip taken from a fan who was seated in the first row."
I watched as the boys sang Act My Age on stage, looking happy and full of energy. Then, a loud squeak rang through the stadium. Everyone went silent as an ominous voice said "It's time for Harry Styles to die."
Niall, Louis, and Liam's heads all immediately snapped to Harry, as if this was a prank he was playing. Harry looked confused and scared, blinking his eyes slowly and looking around. Then, a shot rang loudly throughout the stadium.
The reaction was instant. The fans started screaming Harry's name, Niall threw up on stage from what I'm guessing was fear, and Harry froze, his hand stuck in his hair where the bullet had just grazed him. Liam had managed to get Niall moving, and they made their way quickly to the exit at the back of the stage. And Louis, little tiny Louis had ran to Harry, throwing him over his shoulder and running out after them, as the voice holding the camera said "Holy fuck, Harry Styles was nearly just murdered."
I was crying by now, watching as the news lady came back on. "We have an exclusive interview with the girl who had taken this footage." The screen panned to a crying blonde girl who looked about fourteen, her hair messy and her makeup running down her red face that was blotchy from crying. "Hello, your name is Izzy, right?"
The girl nods, wiping her eyes. "Y-Yeah, that's me," she stutters out.
"How did you feel the moment the gunshot was heard?" the interviewer asks, her voice calm and smooth.
"It was scary, seeing the guy I've idolized almost die. It was like seeing the big brother I've never had almost die," the girl, Izzy, replies.
"How do you feel about all of this happening?" the interviewer asks.
"I just hope Harry and the boys are okay," Izzy says, before turning to the camera. "And to whoever has tried to do this to Harry, be warned. The Directioner fandom is one of the most powerful fandoms ever. You messed with one of us, and we will make sure you pay for it."
"Yeah..." I say, standing up. "You will."
