Chapter two

It had been three days since I actually talked to the Mendes family and it was quite lonesome with out communicating to practically anyone.

Uncle Malcolm has been drunk half the time I was here so no doubt he would come downstairs with a hangover. That is if he didn't fall over when walking down the stairs.

My assumptions were correct, he slugged down the stairs clenching a empty beer can in one hand and the other stabilizing himself against the railing.

"Morning Kelsey," he said sluggishly.

I looked up from my lunch and saw him.

My uncle used to be very handsome, I remember seeing pictures of him when he was a teenager. That was before the alcohol got to him. For a split second, I actually felt sorry for him. "Afternoon."

It was 12:36.

A knock sounded on the door and Uncle Malcolm slowly walked towards the door. He opened it and I saw who was knocking. It was Aaliyah.

She was taken aback for a couple seconds but then saw me coming and smiled.

"Uncle Malcolm, I got it."

He nodded and walked away.

I spoke first, "Hey Aaliyah what's up?"

She smiled and asked, "Shawn, Mom, Dad and I were wondering if you would want to go to lunch with us."

"I would love to, can I have thirty minutes though?"

"Yeah, they said we wouldn't be leaving till about one o'clock anyways."

Aaliyah gave me a hug and walked back to their cabin.

I threw my almost untouched sandwich on the counter and headed to my room. I threw my closet open and found a cute outfit to wear pretty quickly.

It was a sheer pink plaid, roll up shirt with a black cami and white shorts. I brushed the mess of my hair to realize that it was disgusting looking. I sprayed dry shampoo on it and looked at the time on my phone.

12:55

Damn it.

I quickly applied some light eye shadow and mascara and ran out the door.

Shawn was making his was leisurely over toward our cabin when I ran smack into him.

He smiled, "slow down Speedy Gonzales, you're fine."

I laughed, "someone's been watching way too much looney tunes."

"Have you been stalking me?"

"No, I have not now c'mon lets go. I think everyone's hungry."

"Hi Kelsey!" Mrs. Mendes said, "how are you doing today?"

"I'm great, thank you for inviting me." I smiled, this family was amazing. I felt so accepted.

"It was no problem." Mr. Mendes said.

"Kelsey? Who do you want to ride with? Shawn has his own car." Aaliyah asked me and I looked over at Shawn who was standing next to a Jeep. Shawn did his best Vanna White impression, from wheel of Fortune gesturing to his car.

"I'll ride with Shawn, I guess."

"We'll see you there then. Shawn don't kill her."

The rest of the Mendes clan left and Shawn and I stood for a moment.
