Waffles

It was too early in the morning for me to be awake. I laid silently and still on the couch in which I was located and stared up at the high beamed ceiling. I watched a fan spin repeatably, counting the blades as they spun.

1,2,3,4... 1,2,3,4 over and over again. I rolled over on my side and let out a breath of exhaustion. I let my mind wander at the memories of yesterday's events.

The great news was that I'd be seeing Cora pretty soon, if I could find a way to go to Shawn's concert. I glanced at my phone, it's was only 7:30 in the morning but I was wide awake. I shifted my body weight again before I stretched and let out a yawn.

"Morning sleepy head." I looked up and saw Shawn walking over towards the couch, he sat down by my feet and leaned back. "Mom told me you've had a rough day yesterday."

I sighed, "yeah, you could definitely say that."

He sat up and looked over at me with his big brown eyes. His hair was a mess, shooting itself up in every which direction. His lips were drawn into a tight line as his eyes found mine. "I'm sorry to hear that." He hesitated before shaking his head and looking away.

"What are you thinking?" I pushed my body up so I was half sitting, half laying down.

"It's nothing." He turned his head then looked away before he turned his whole body facing me. "So Mum told me that your best friend is coming to my show in two weeks."

I knew he was trying to distract me. "Yeah, her name is Cora."

"How long have you two been friends for?"

"Almost four years, we've never met each other in person." I paused and yawned dragging my hand through my knotted brown hair. "She's my closest friend even though she lives so far away."

Something behind Shawn's eyes sparked as he caught mine. His voice was soft but intense as looked at me and said, "what if I got her VIP tickets and a Meet and Greet? I can bring you along too so you two can meet one another."

I couldn't believe what I'd just heard, I was going to ask him but he already knew. "That would be the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for me."

"It's settled then." He smiled before pushing himself up off the couch and stretching his back out. "Aaliyah still has a fever so I'm going be generous and make her chocolate chip waffles, do you wanna help?"

I nodded my head, "yeah sure."

I got up and pulled my shirt back over my stomach because it had ridden up while I had been sleeping.

Shawn pulled out the ingredients and the recipe before grabbing two very large aprons off a coat rack.

"What are you planning to do that's so messy Mendes?"

He shrugged at me before cracking a smile and saying, "I'm making waffles." He smacked his lips and over enunciated the n sound on making.

I couldn't stifle my giggle as Shawn rolled his eyes at me before wrapping his navy blue apron strings around his body and tying it. He picked up mine and tossed it at me.

I tried to tie it tightly behind me and failed.

"Are you having some trouble Kels?"

I laughed slightly. "Yeah maybe a little." My fingers struggled to tie the apron for a couple moments before I felt two large, warm hands grasp my wrists from behind and slowly releasing them by my sides.

"Let me help you." Shawn laughed and I could hear the smile in his voice. I felt the stings moving behind me for a few split seconds before the feeling of his body behind me was gone. I looked over at him and he smiled.
