The silvery moonlight spilled into the quiet room of the Dwaraka Palace. The tiny flames in the corner of the room mingled with the moonbeams, creating beautiful shadows on the white floor.

The champaks and lotuses leaned in, as Pradyumnajanani sang her child a soft lullaby, gently cradling him in her arms. Alas, the child was in no mood for a slumber, as it stared at its mother's face, LakshmiVadana, curiously.

Subhadra was sitting right beside her sister in law and nephew, as she was doing for the past few days. She was very much excited by the arrival of the new family member that she could always be seen wherever the child was, like a silent admirer and protector, a lotus leaf guiding the blooming bud.

Chuckling lovingly, Rukmini planted a kiss on her little Ghanashyama's forehead.

"My my, Seems like my little child doesn't want to sleep yet. Waiting for Pitashree.. Are we??" Rukmini held Pradyumna closer to herself as she ran her hand through his curly black locks, very much similar to his father's. The little child cooed in reply as it lifted it's tiny hand to touch her cheek, as if the moon touching the earth.

"Where has Bhrata Krishna gone to?" Subhadra voiced out her curiosity, innocently. Rukmini turned to her little sister in law, and pulled her cheeks affectionately.

"Your bhrata has gone to Hastinapura to visit Mata Kunti, to let her know of the shubh Samachar of Pradyumna's birth."

"He could have done so by writing a letter.. right?" Subhadra was simply curious on the need to travel the long distance, as she asked the question, echoing the innocence of a fawn, but Rukmini knew the importance the Vaasudevabhagini held in her Govinda's life.

"He could have done so, Chitrey. But it is always worth putting a bit more effort when it comes to our loved ones. Don't your agree?"
Subhadra thought for a while and then nodded with a wide smile. Even little Pradyumna cooed, as if agreeing to what his mother said.

"Alright little one, it is time for you to sleep. And so is it time for your aunt to sleep." Subhadra frowned, and looked at Rukmini with pleading eyes.

"No bhabhi.. let me look at him for some more time." Her voice was laced with plea, never getting tired of spending time with the new born.

"I wish Chitrey, but Mata Rohini must be coming searching for you. And you can always spend more time with him tomorrow. I promise..."

Exhaling sharply, Subhadra got up from the bed. Her frown soon was replaced by a smile as she kissed her nephew's round baby cheeks. Rukmini pulled Subhadra closer to herself and pecked the little girl's forehead.

Giggling and jumping, she exited the room, awaiting the next morning patiently.

Rukmini returned her focus on making her child sleep. She sang the lullaby again, more softer and gentle, emanating the maternal bliss in her heart, as the chamber echoed of her affection and love. She stood up and slowly walked to the open balcony of her chamber, cradling Pradyumna in her arms. The chilly breeze of the moonlit night coolly grazed her golden skin and pushed back the long thick strands of her hair behind. Her face was adorned with an unfading smile as her eyes gazed upon her son, slowly dozing off to slumber.

She didn't stop singing, as birds perched upon the nearby branches, swans settled on the edge of the lotus bloomed lake. They all looked up at the white and golden balcony, where Jagatswamini sang for her son relaxing in it's harmony. Her voice lulled the world, as a tiny fawn nestled into it's mother and the peacock chick slept beside the peahen.

Rukmini looked at her son, now sleeping soundly in her arms, his lips forming smiles frequently. She pecked his cheek once more, inhaling the baby scent, a mix of milk and sweetness.

She walked back to the chamber, and proceeded towards the ornated crib on the side. Ever so softly and subtly, she placed the sleeping baby on the soft blue mattress of the crib, which twinkled under the tender touch of the moonlight. She covered Govindanandan and caressed his hair once more before departing from the dimly lit chamber, leaving her son under the care of the nurses and maids.

As the wooden door closed behind her, an unrest settled in her mind, sudden and abrupt. She frowned looking back at the closed door. Attributing the feeling to the exhaustion she felt, she proceeded towards the divine temple of Mata Gauri, situated inside the palace, close to her chamber.

As she entered, the scent of incense, mingled with that of sandalwood and flowers, managed to ease her mind. The temple was always lit with lamps, which acted as the source of the golden glow always present there. Settling herself before the Idol of Mata Gauri, on the cold white floor, she joined her palms in reverence, uttering silent prayers.

But before she could comprehend what was happening, a swift breeze entered the divine abode, extinguishing the array of lamps with ease, leaving Rukmini in darkness. She opened her eyes to obscurity.

A shrill shriek escaped Rukmini's chamber, one enveloped with panic and fear.
