I can smell bacon and pancakes as I open eyes. Shifting my weight on my side I turn and face Clare. Her face is peaceful, and skin surprisingly vibrant. I shake her awake but she doesn't stir. I've noticed she seems much healthier than last night so I say a little thank you in my mind. It would have broke me if she hadn't gotten better. Smoothing a lock of hair behind her ear I watch her quietly breath. I should probably get up. For all I know we're in killers house. Well, a killer with very beautiful and expensive home decor.

I catch the soft lavender blanket between my fingers. Clare sleeps like a baby as I tuck her in dragging myself of out the comfiest bed I've ever slept on. Such a pity I can't own such a luxury. The smooth cold feeling of the hardwood floor stuns me as I stand. Swaying a bit, I grab the headboard for support. How long has it been since I've eaten?

"Woah woah." Ash reaches towards me with his hands

"Sorry, I feel a bit dizzy" I mumble in my morning voice.

"Yeah no shit babes, you need to eat"
My eyebrows raise and my hand finds itself to my hip.

"Duh. Are you always so damn combative? What are you even doing in here. It's creepy you know, being in here as soon as I open my eyes." I say with my eyes narrowed.

"Mia I was just making sure you were alright, and that you haven't left" his eyes find the floor and he actually seems nervous.

I remain silent for awhile, thinking hard. I suppress my weird urge to reach out and hug him.

"Thanks I guess." I try to say in my hardest voice.

"Yeah" Ash replies now with his usual cocky confidence again.

We stand there in the beautiful room and stare at each other. Almost like we're challenging one another.

"So breakfast?" I finally say breaking our trance.

"Yes mam. Come on, I'll show you the kitchen" Ash says.

I walk over to Clare'd side of the bed ready to shake her. I'm sure she's as hungry as me, plus pancakes are her absolute favorite.

"DO.NOT.WAKE.HER!" Ash is screaming/whispering from the doorway.

"Why the hell not?" I whirl around, anger pumping through my body. What's his deal with her? She's hungry too.

"Mia listen, just don't..trust me"

"No! Okay you wouldn't let me wake her last night and now I can't wake her up for breakfast" tears sing my eyes with frustration.

"Remember last night I told you I would explain everything? I will. Just please. Let her sleep and let's go to breakfast. We need to talk and Clare needs to sleep" Ash comes forward, and places his hand in my shoulder. "Please trust me"

I had totally forgotten about his explanation.

"Fine, but I'm waking her right after breakfast and you can't stop me."

Ash rubs his temple. "Alright, but you won't want to Mia, let's go the pancakes are getting cold"

Rather than challenging him I say: "you better have strawberry syrup dude" and turn out walk out the bedroom door leaving him standing still.

"Hey smarty pants, kitchen is to the left not the right" I hear laughter as he states it.

"Yeah I knew that" I say defeated.
He comes from the bedroom and leads be down the hall.

"Let's eat Hun"
I mumble a barely audible response and can smell the food already. I just wish Clare was walking to it with me.
