My mind swirls as Mia's alarm slams me awake. Can anyone remind me again why the hell we get up so early for school? Ugh. I see the sheets slowly rise and fall beside me, Mia can sleep through anything. Sighing, I wake up and think all back to last night.
Why does Mrs. C hate me so much? You'd think since her and my mother were basically glued at the hip in high school that she would be nice to her best friend's daughter.
Nope. She literally hates me. That goes for Mia too. It's got like this after my mother's car accident, that and the state pushing me into her home. Not that I'm one to complain at all! I'd rather be abused and miserable than be away from my best friend. I'm serious. It may sound dramatic but Mia is like my sister, she's the only person I actually care for.
I run my fingers through my light brown curly hair. School sucks but there happens to be guys there, I have to do something with my appearance. My gray eyes stare back at me in the bathroom mirror. Although Mia and are I best friends when it comes to looks, we have an appalling different type of appearance.
I happen to have very pale skin. And unlike the glowing Mia, I can't even attempt to tan. With her olive colored skin she has beautiful dark brown hair. I think that's amazing because I guess mines never going to get any darker.
The one thing Mia has that's the most unique though, are her eyes. The deepest shade of green I've ever seen. She's charmed many guys with them. I guess you could say out of the two of us I'm the lesser. I'm not bothered though. I might not be as stunning as my best friend but I know I'm not hideous.
Out of the corner of my eye I see Mia stirring. She's tossed the covers off her and has started staring at me.
"Do you think your moms awake yet?" I question. " I don't wanna run into her withdrawal stage again"
"Eh. She's to damn lazy to be up at six thirty" Mia heads for the door before turning to me. "What do you wanna wear from our room?"
"The usual" I say.
Mia nods before walking out.
A few minutes later she returns with her usual too. Skinny jeans,a crop top, beanie, and converse. In her hand are my clothes. A short blue and black dress. She even got my black converse too. She really does know me well.
I practically slip into my clothes and turn to the bathroom with Mia to do our makeup.
After that's done. We get to catch the bus. Lord knows Mrs. C can't save any money for a car for us to share. So we ride the bus, not that's it's that big of a deal. Nobody has nerve to cross us. Especially Mia. You either are scared of us, absolutely have fallen in love with us, or just think we're fun and awesome to be around. Usually people stay away because of what everyone says. We're "bad girls" that we're to young and crazy.
Me and Mia though. We're pretty smart. Street smart and book smart. Most people don't see it.

Having the night we've endured you'd think we could skip. Nope, Clare and I are not staying in that house with my crazy mother. As we ride on the bus we notice our usual seat in the back has already become occupied by to what seems to be a new boy. He has brownish blond shiny hair and dark brown eyes. As we approach I notice his red vans and band tee. I hide a smile and nudge Clare next to me.
"Yo, new guy. THAT'S OUR SEAT.
Clare puts a hand on her hip and tilts her head to the side.
The boy doesn't budge, but instead looks up at me. Clary could maybe let up a little? I mean come on he's got cuteness.
"I see that." He chuckles slightly turning his attention to me.
"Here maybe we can all fit" the boy yanks me down plopping me right beside him.
My cheeks turn a bright red as he smiles. I most certainly didn't have time for this. Who did he think he was? Maybe he didn't get the memo that Mia isn't to be messed with. Clare stands in the isle ready to give a good smacking to the guy sitting beside me.
"Bye dude" I get up furiously and move into the seat in in front of him. Clare follows and cuts him a glare.
Behind me I hear him scribble something down..and all the sudden there's a tap in my shoulder. Now normally if someone bothered me this much I would just deck them. But this dude. This dude's eyes are to pretty. So instead of starting a scene I quickly take the paper he handed me without Clare noticing. I know she wouldn't wanna put up with it. My hands find my purse and I shove the slip of paper inside.
The new guy doesn't bother us the rest if the ride to school. Strange. You'd think he would say something else to me...Oh well. Clare and I usually don't talk to people out of our group anyway. You know, stoners, bad asses, drop outs. Our group.
We pull into the grueling place we call "Jefferson High." God it was going to be a long day..
