I woke up and felt the ache in my throat from all the vomiting I had done.

"Why are you acting this way? This isn't you."

Is that...Dr. Arden?

"What are you talking about? I'm still your precious Sister Mary Eunice."

He huffed. "This is a perversion of you. Of your original self."

"Perversion? Oh, Arthur, the only one here with perverted feelings is you."

I heard the sharp sting of a slap.

I had no idea who hit who until I heard a loud thud and disgruntled sounds coming from Dr. Arden.

"How dare you!" said Dr. Arden.

"If you ever lay a hand on me I will see to it that the light of day never hits your eyes again."

His loud steps left the room and I felt my bed dip from someone leaning on it.

I could feel their warm breath on my ear. "I know you're awake. Don't you dare think about breathing a word about what you heard."

My eyes were still closed and I felt the tears build up behind them, pushing to make my eyes open.

I waited until I heard her leave the room and then I opened my eyes, the tears rushing down the sides of my face.

The light above me blurred until I wouldn't be able to distinguish what it was if someone had bothered to ask.

I drifted in and out of consciousness for hours after that until I fully woke up to see Dr. Thredson sitting in a chair beside my bed.

"Freya, I'm so glad to see that you're awake."

"Oliver." I pushed with effort to heave his name out of my throat.

"I'm so sorry about what happened with the therapy."

"It's okay. At least you tried."

He shook his head. "I didn't try hard enough. But I'm going to now. Nurse McKillian said that you're all good to get up and start walking around. So, after you get some food in you I'm going to take you away from here."

"Really?"

"Yes," he took my hand. "I promise you."

For a person whose career depended on words, I was at a loss for them.

I just smiled and gripped the hand of the person who was going to be my ticket out of here.

I hurriedly made my way to the common room, needing to let Kit and Emma know about the news and that I would be getting them out of there soon after my own departure.

I kept my head down; making sure that my hair covered my face.

I found them at the painting tables, heads close together.

"Kit." I whispered, walking up to them.

He turned with a smile on his face. "Frey-"

"Shhhh. Nobody can know I'm here." I sat down across from them.

"What happened? We were worried about you." Emma said.

"I was in the medical wing. But I'm fine now. I've got great news! I'm getting out of here!"

"What?"

I took a chance and met both of their eyes. "I'm leaving tonight. But as soon as I'm able to I'm going to go to the police, the newspapers, whatever it takes to get this place shut down and get the both of you out of here. Along with Diana."

"I can't believe you're leaving."

"I know. But I promise that I will come back for both of you and for Diana."

Both of them had sad smiles on their faces, especially Emma.

I reached out and grabbed her hand. "It's okay Emma. You won't be alone. You'll have Kit."

"Yeah," he turned to her and started rubbing in small circles on her back with his hand. "I'll always be here for you."

She sighed and leaned her head on his shoulder.

"Be safe. I'll be back before you know it."

I got up from the table and walked out of the room.

"Are you ready?"

It was an hour after I spoke with Kit and Emma when finally, Oliver came to get me.

He was holding a box full of papers and a coat thrown over one arm. He set down the box and handed me the coat. "Here, put this on."

I took the coat from him and pulled it on. "How are you going to get me past the guards?"

"Just hold this," he handed me the box he had brought in. "And keep your head down and your mouth shut."

"O-okay." I clutched the box close to my front, my nails turning white with how tightly I was gripping it.

"Follow me."

He turned and began to walk down the hall. We made it past both patients and orderlies until finally reaching the main doors. It was dark outside and I could hear the sounds of crickets.

Nighttime was always my favourite time. Everything seemed so much more serene during the night.

We walked through the doors and I continued to follow Oliver to a car that was parked at the edge of the lot. He took the box from me and opened up the trunk.

"Go sit in the front seat."

I obliged and sat down, closing the door softly behind me.

I'm almost free.

"Dr. Thredson!"

I froze, not daring to breathe.

"Yes, Murphy?" I heard Oliver respond.

"Sister Jude said she wants to speak with you."

"I'm just leaving. I don't work here anymore. You can tell Sister Jude I said that."

Oliver closed the trunk and walked around to the front seat, getting in behind the wheel. Right away he started the engine and pulled out of the lot, nervously tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.

I watched Briarcliff steadily get smaller and smaller in the side view mirror as we drove further away from it.

I was finally free.
