MERRY CHRISTMAS, PLEASE DONT CALL — THE BLEACHERS
'And the toughest part is that, we both know what happened to you— why you're out on your own.'Cassie feels alive the moment her broom leaves the ground. There's something so special about the way flying makes her feel. It's the way all worries drop to dust, and the way the wind travels around her head. It's a calming notion, flying, no matter the situation.
Cassie remembers even feeling calm flying to the Ministry in fifth year, the night when Sirius died. There was the potential risk that her father was being held captive by the darkest wizard of all time, yet flying took it all off her mind for just one, peaceful moment.
It's an even bigger comfort flying next to her father. She has him in her eye-line, which prevents any worry of his whereabouts. It's frustrating, really, because Remus wants Cassie in front of him to keep an eye on her, but Cassie wants him in front of her to do the same. When you put two driven, loving people in a predicament regarding safety, the outcome never goes to plan.
But of course, Cassie won and Remus is now in front of her.
The lightning in the sky seems to get worse the closer they get to the Burrow. It's leaving no room for remorse. Cassie's body enters flight or fight mode when a spell comes her way. In this very moment, everything turns to absolute chaos.
Deatheaters.
Cassie fires a spell back at the perpetrator with just as much spite. With those masks on, she has no idea who it is. For all she knows, she could be hexing Theodore Nott, or Thorfinn Rowle.
"Where are you?" a recognisable high-pitched voice shouts. The only voice that could possibly belong to is Bellatrix Lestrange's. Cassie's blood runs cold as she puts more pressure on her broom. Being an excellent flier most definitely has its privileges in situations like these.
Remus is mere inches behind her, only taking his eyes off her to fight back. It's a brutal fight, this one. Deatheaters falling from the sky, with the mean strike of each lightning bolt to add to the already chaotic atmosphere.
The zap of each spell, and the bright light each one retracts, floods Cassie's senses at once. Her only objective right now is to get her and Remus back to the Burrow safely and untouched. So far, it's going well.
One particular Deatheater is taking a large interest to Cassie. They won't leave her alone, sending all sorts of hexes in her direction. Cassie, with the help of her dad, manages to block every one. As of right now, she remains untouched.
"Avada Kedavra!"
The curse comes quickly.
Really quickly.
But it doesn't make it.
Something stops it. Something Cassie has never seen before.
A blue orb surrounds Cassie's person, almost like a force-field. The curse ricochets straight off the bubble and hits the Deatheater square in the chest. Cassie can't breathe all of a sudden.
Escaping death should not be that easy.
She turns to look at her father, and a tear falls down his cheek.
There's no time for tears, Cassie thinks, as more spells come her way. They really seem to love her this evening. They're not aiming for whoever's behind them, they're aiming straight for Cassie and her father.
Every curse and spell that comes their way bounces straight off Cassie. Cassie hasn't experienced many curses before, but she's pretty sure they're not meant to just bounce off like that. Blue force-fields are not exactly normal.
